Men's Cross Country Earns Third Place Finish at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Temple University men's cross country squad put on a top-notch showing to close out their regular season competition on a crisp Friday afternoon at the Princeton Invitational. The Owls finished third overall out of 20 teams, conquering the West Windsor Fields in New Jersey. Sophomore Kristian Jensen crossed the line first for the Cherry and White with a time of 24:08.7, clocking the fastest 8K in program history and earn fourth place overall.

> The Owls faced a contingent of teams that they will see again in the near future at both conference and regional meets. The Mid-Atlantic region was represented by multiple of their top-ranked teams at the Princeton Invitational, including Villanova (No. 2), Princeton (No. 3), Temple, (No. 7), Saint Joseph's (No. 9), Monmouth (No. 11), Lehigh (No. 12), La Salle (No. 13), George Washington (No. 14) and American (No. 15).
> The Princeton men's squad that received votes in the latest USTFCCCA national poll took the title at their home competition, compiling 37 points on the day. Following the Tigers was Villanova with 47 points, a team that also received votes this week after previously being ranked in the top 30.
> Temple sealed the third place spot on the day with 107 total points. The Owls' top three all finished in the top 15 individually, and the top five all crossed the finish line top 50 in the field.
> Following Temple in the final standings was American Athletic Conference foe UConn, who the Owls will meet again in just two weeks at the conference meet. The Huskies compiled 127 points on the day.
> Closing out the top five was nationally-recognized Columbia, totaling 132 total points at the Princeton Invitational.

> "Overall there were many great performances today, resulting in a solid day for the men after two hard weeks of training," said head coach James Snyder. "Multiple people really stepped up in different places to earn us a third place finish behind two great teams. I am excited to build off of this going into conferences, because when the pieces fall into place, this season can really be something really special."
How it Happened
> Jensen's top five performance was indicative of his talent and the training he has put in this season, earning him the number one spot for the Owls for the first time this season. So far this year, Temple has had a different top runner in all four races, speaking to the strength and talent that the team upholds.
> Earning the number two spot for the Owls was senior Louis Corgliano, who ran the 8,000-meter course in 24:25.7. Corgliano narrowly missed a top 10 finish, earning 12th by under two seconds as one of the steadiest competitors on the squad.
> Just a second behind Corgliano was junior Zach Seiger, who crossed the finish line 13th with a time of 24:26.8. Seiger also put on an impressive performance, coming forward in the group to play a big role in the third place overall finish.
> The next finisher for the Owls was junior Kevin Lapsansky, who finished 30th with a time of 24:51.0. Rounding out the top five for Temple was Junior Harry Powell, who ran for ran the course in 25:08.7 for his second time in Cherry and White.

> Marking the completion of their regular season schedule, the men's cross country team will have a week without competition before heading to New Orleans to compete in the American Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday, Oct. 25. The AAC runners will race the 8,000-meter course at The Golf Club at Audubon Park, and are set to begin at 10:50 a.m. CT.
