Volleyball Hosts Conference Foes Cincinnati and ECU this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will play a pair in the friendly confines of McGonigle Hall this weekend, hosting Cincinnati on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and ECU on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
PROMOTIONS
> Friday night will be a CHERRY OUT game, with the first 200 students receiving a free t-shirt sponsored by AKF Group.
> Sunday is Temple's PINK OUT game, with all donations going to the American Cancer Society in honor of Pat Albright, Temple's senior administrative assistant who passed away this summer after a courageous fight with breast cancer.
THE OWLS
> After finishing the non-conference season with a 3-9 overall record, the Owls have opened play in the American Athletic Conference with a 1-2 mark.
> Last time out, the Owls fell 3-1 at home to visiting UConn, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 25-16.
> After dropping the first set against the Huskies, Temple won a tight set two. UConn then wrapped up the win with victories in the third and fourth sets.
> Graduate student Iva Deak led the way against UConn with 14 kills and a team-best five blocks, while sophomore Katerina Papazoglou notched a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs.
> On the season, the Owls are led by junior Dana Westfield's 2.49 kills per set, while Papazoglou adds 2.42 and graduate student Iva Deak, 1.93.
> Senior Hannah Vandegrift leads Temple with 5.26 assists per set, while freshman Tyler Lindgren adds 5.07 assists per set.
> Senior Mia Heirakuji leads the defense with 4.03 digs per frame with senior Carla Guennewig tallying a team-high 1.05 blocks per set.
SCOUTING CINCINNATI
> Cincinnati enters Friday's match with a 12-4 overall record, including a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
> Cincinnati's offense features Jordan Thompson who leads the nation in kills and points. The redshirt junior averages a massive 6.27 kills per set, while also ranking tops on the team (third in the conference) with 23 aces.
> The Bearcats' offense is not limited to Thompson, as Erica Kostelac has added 2.44 kills per set with Maria Mallon chipping in with 1.94.
> Armania Heckenmueller (9.08 a/s) and Jade Tingelhoff (9.80 a/s) run Cincinnati's 6-2 offense.
> Defensively, Abby Williams leads the way with 2.84 digs per set, while Carly Nolan adds 2.49 per frame.
TEMPLE VS. CINCINNATI
> Temple owns the all-time series against the Bearcats, 9-4, and won their only meeting last season.
SCOUTING ECU
> ECU is 10-4 overall with a 2-1 mark in conference play.
> The Pirates have a balanced offense with six players averaging 1.75 kills per set or better.
> Bri Wood's 2.52 kills per frame leads the pack, while Natalie Tyson (2.50 k/s), Sydney Kleinman (2.44 k/s) and Toya Osuegbu (2.30 k/s) all have carried the offensive load.
> Shelby Martin handles most of the setting duties, running the offense with 9.10 assists per set.
> Defensively, Maggie Hallow's 4.19 digs per set leads the Bearcats, while Wood averages 2.96 digs per frame.
