Gymnastics to Face Pitt, Towson, and No. 25 NC State on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - Coming off a first-place finish at Sunday's quad meet in McGonigle Hall, Temple gymnastics will head to Pittsburgh for a Saturday afternoon quad meet. On Feb. 3 at 2 p.m., the Panthers will play host to Temple, Towson, and No. 25 NC State.Â
Scouting the Owls
> Temple enters Saturday's meet ranked fifth in the North East region.Â
> Temple Gymnastics posted a 193.225 to earn its first home win of 2018 vs. SEMO, Ithaca, and Cornell on Sunday, Jan. 28. The squad's highest event score of the afternoon was its 48.775 floor exercise score. Freshman Tori Edwards notched a career-best 9.850 floor score, tying for second overall with SEMO's McKinzie Jones. Junior co-captain Breahna Wiczkowski stood out on the balance beam with season-best score of 9.825.
> At UNC on Jan. 19, Temple notched a season-high uneven bars score of 48.625 led by senior Kerry Arone and Edwards with a pair of 9.75's. On floor, Edwards was the Owls' top scorer with a 9.825, tying for second with UNC's Madison Nettles. For their performances at UNC, both senior Sahara Gipson and freshman Jordyn Oster earned ECAC weekly honors. Gipson was named ECAC Gymnast of the Week for the week of competition ending on Jan. 21 for her vault (9.7), floor (9.675), and beam (9.675) routines. Oster earned ECAC Coaches Choice honors after posting her third consecutive 9.725 on the balance beam and a strong 9.7 on floor.
> The Owls reset the program record for highest season-opening team score with a 194.875 in their 2018 debut at the Little Boston Invitational on Jan. 6.Â
Scouting the Panthers
> Pittsburgh gymnastics heads into Saturday's meet ranked third in the North East region.
> On Jan. 27 at MSU, two Panthers earned individual titles. Senior Catie Conrad and sophomore Deven Herbine earned the gold on beam and vault, respectively, as Pittsburgh finished fourth with a 193.125 against Michigan State, Eastern Michigan and Rutgers. The Panthers posted its highest event score of the night on bars with a 48.750 score. Sophomore Megan Tripp scored a career-high 9.825 to lead Pitt and finish tied for third on the event.Â
Scouting the Tigers
> In its Team Up for 1 Night quad meet hosted on Jan. 26, Towson posted a 194.275 to place second against UNC, Yale, and Ursinus. Senior Tyra McKellar won the individual bars title with a score of 9.825 while Mary Elle Arduino finished first on beam with a 9.850. The Tigers boasted five of the top nine scores on beam, including four of the top six, led by the 1-2 finish of Arduino and senior Gabriella Yarussi (9.825).
Scouting the Wolfpack
> The Wolfpack enters Saturday's meet ranked No. 25 in the nation.Â
> On Jan. 27, NC State competed against three of the nation's top 15 teams at the Metroplex Challenge. The Wolfpack posted a 195.825 to finish fourth overall. The squad's best work was done on the balance beam, tallying a 49.175. Chelsea Knight led the way with a career-high score of 9.875 to tie for sixth in th event. Overall, NC State earned six top-10 finishes across floor, bars, beam, and all-around.Â
