Field Hockey Earns BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award
8.13.18 | Field Hockey
NEW YORK – The Temple University field hockey team took home the 2017-18 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence award, as announced by the conference this summer. The Owls were honored for having the highest collective grade-point averages among all BIG EAST field hockey teams.
"The team has set a standard of academic excellence in which we hold ourselves accountable for achieving," said Head Coach Marybeth Freeman. "As a coach, it's refreshing to see how each semester they challenge and push themselves to reach new heights in the classroom. With this academic achievement, our student athletes should be incredibly proud of what they were able to accomplish, the staff sure is!"
Five different schools had at least one team honored, with Georgetown leading the way with five certificates. DePaul had four teams recognized, followed by Creighton and St. John's with three. Butler had a pair of teams earn certificates, while Marquette, Seton Hall, Villanova, Temple and Vanderbilt rounded out the award winners with one nod apiece.
The winners were chosen based on the 2017-18 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
