Men's Cross Country Secures First Team Win

8.31.18 | Men's Cross Country

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's cross country squad had an impressive showing despite dreary weather conditions in their first race of the 2018 season. The Owls conquered the challenging 8,000m course at the historic Belmont Plateau, finishing first as a team at the Temple Invitational with senior Louis Corgliano winning the event in a time of 26:56.9.

From the Coach
> "We were very fortunate to have some local schools come out today and really get the chance to get the cross country season started," said head coach James Snyder. The Owls welcomed West Chester, Jefferson, La Salle and Widener to their home course, finishing first of the five teams.
> "Today was a wonderful opportunity to see where athletes are and was a great indicator of our progression thus far. We saw a lot of groups form and watched these athletes work to find one another, putting us in a great place moving forward."

Owls dominate
> Temple dominated the course, as Corgliano led a phenomenal pack that showed nine out of the top 10 runners in Cherry and White.
> Senior Tyji Mays also had a great performance tonight finishing third with a time of 27:19.8. Trailing him in this team-driven pack were juniors David Fitzgerald, Kevin Lapsansky and Zach Seiger, all finishing within six seconds of one another.
> Two sophomores crossed next, as Kristian Jenson and Anton Harrsen showed ample teamwork, finishing in 27:26.3 and 27:26.8 respectfully.

Race Notes
> Sophomore Noah Curtin had a breakout race, finishing ninth with a time of 27:39.5. The performance is his second best all time, running only three seconds off of his personal record.
> Today's meet marks the sixth time the Owls hosted the Temple Invitational. It also marks the second year in a row that both Temple squads left the meet victorious, winning the overall meet as a team as well as both individual races.
> Temple's nine in the top 10 finishers tops last year's results at the Temple Invitational, when they won the meet with six runners placing 10th or better.

Up Next
> The Owls will be back in action on Friday, September 14th when they travel to West Point, N.Y. to compete in the Army Invitational.
