PHILADELPHIA - The BIG EAST opener ended in heartbreak for Temple field hockey as the Owls (1-6, 0-1) lost 3-2 in a hard-fought game against Providence (5-5, 1-1) in double overtime. Less than four minutes remained of a possible 20 in extra time when the Friars' Allyson Parker scored on a corner opportunity.

Game Summary
> Providence had the advantage on offense in total shots and shots on goal, but Temple made the most of its chances.
> The Owls took a 1-0 lead on their first shot on goal in the 10th minute with an impressive strike by junior Kathryn Edgar that sailed into the top of the cage.
> With just over eight minutes left in the first half, Providence tied the game. The Friars then got another just 30 seconds before halftime, taking a 2-1 lead into the break.
> Late in the second half, Edgar found redshirt freshman Grace Shanton with a perfect pass on a corner, and Shanton sent it past Providence goalkeeper Lydia Rice for a 2-2 tie.
> The Owls were unable to get a shot in either overtime, but Temple's Chloe Johnson made a total of four OT saves before the Friars got the game-winner past her in the 87th minute.

Individual Highlights
> The goal by Shanton was the first of her career, while Edgar's goal was her first of the season.
> Edgar has a team-leading three assists for the Owls.
> Johnson finished with 17 saves, tying her career high and marking her fourth double-digit save performance of the season.
> Sophomore Dani Batze recorded a defensive save late in the first half, and ranks among the top players in NCAA Division I with five defensive saves this season.
