Gymnastics Places Second at the Little Boston Invite with a 194.700

BOSTON— Temple women's gymnastics posted a season-best 194.700 at the Little Boston Invitational Saturday night. The Owls placed second behind No. 20 Penn State (195.150) and ahead of Towson (190.225). The meet was highlighted by two titles (vault and all-around) for Ariana Castrence.
Beam
> Temple started off the night on beam, tallying a 48.675 team score. This was the team's most-improved event from last weekend's competition, in which it scored a 47.050.
> Three Owls recorded career-bests on beam in Boston. Freshmen Taylor Newland and Ariana Castrence scored career-bests of 9.65 and 9.75, respectively. Sophomore Monica Servidio earned second in the event with a career-best 9.825.
> Sophomores Jordyn Oster and Delaney Garin also notched strong performances for the Owls, scoring a 9.75 and a 9.700, respectively.
Floor
> The Owls tallied their highest event total of the night on floor, scoring a 48.8.
> Five student-athletes scored or tied their career-bests on the event. Sophomore Erica Fuchs kicked off the lineup with a career-best 9.65 and Newland continued the momentum with her career-best of 9.675. Servidio's 9.8 tied her personal record and Castrence set her new career-best at 9.825. Senior India Anderson's electric routine garnered a 9.85. This score tied her career best and tied her for second in the event.
Vault
> Temple recorded a 48.45 on their third event of the competition.
> Yasmin Eubanks and Tori Edwards set the tone for the Owls with a 9.525 and a 9.625.
> Servidio and Estrella had great showings on vault, scoring a 9.7 and a 9.775.
> Castrence notched the evening's highest score in the event, scoring a career-best 9.825 to take first place.
Bars
>The Owls wrapped up the meet on bars with a 48.775.
> Daisy Todd started off the event for Temple with a 9.675. Servidio, Edwards and Castrence put on strong performances through the middle of the lineup, scoring 9.725, 9.775 and 9.75, respectively.
> Estrella anchored the Owls with a stellar 9.85, tying her for third in the event.
All-Around
> Castrence and Servidio competed in the all-around for the Owls. Castrence took the title, scoring a career-best 39.15. Her mark was 0.05 shy of the program's all-around record of 39.2 that was set in 2012. Servidio tallied a career-best 39.050, surpassing her previous record of 38.975. Her score was good for second place.

> "Overall, we had a much better performance as a team," said head coach Josh Nilson. "We worked on a lot of little things. Going in to this week, we'll improve a few more things and we'll be ready for New Hampshire."
> All-around competitors, Servidio and Castrence, had strong performances for the Owls and are closing in on the program's all-around record. "Monica and Ariana will probably both break [the record] this year. They're both so solid and doing a great job for us," said Nilson.
