Gymnastics Travels to UNH for Quad Meet Friday

PHILADELPHIA— Gymnastics hits the road for its third meet of the season, traveling to Durham, N.H. to compete in a quad meet against UNH, Bridgeport and Pitt on Friday, Jan. 18. The meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Whittemore Center.

The Owls
>The Owls are led by head coach Josh Nilson, who is in his first season leading the Cherry and White.
> Last time out, Temple competed in the Little Boston Invitational against No. 20 Penn State and Towson. The Owls posted a season-best 194.700, placing second behind No. 20 Penn State (195.150) and ahead of Towson (190.225). Temple started off the night on beam, tallying a 48.675 team score. This was the team's most-improved event from its last meet, in which it scored a 47.050. Temple tallied its highest event total in Boston on floor, scoring a 48.8. Five Owls scored or tied their career-bests on the event. Monica Servidio and Ariana Castrence notched career-bests of 9.825 and 9.75, respectively. The meet was highlighted by two titles (vault and all-around) for Castrence.
> The Owls are captained by senior India Anderson, junior Daisy Todd and sophomore Delaney Garin. Anderson tied her career-best and tied for second place with a 9.85 on floor last week at the Little Boston Invite.
> The squad features two all-around competitors in Servidio and Castrence. They went one-two in the event in Boston. Castrence took the title, scoring a career-best 39.15. Her mark was 0.05 shy of the program's all-around record of 39.2 that was set in 2012. Servidio tallied a career-best 39.050, surpassing her previous record of 38.975. Her score was good for second place.
> Junior Jazmyn Estrella was strong on bars and vault for the Cherry and White. She scored a 9.775 on vault and anchored the Owls on bars with a stellar 9.85, tying her for third in the event.
> Two Owls, Anderson and Castrence, earned ECAC weekly honors for their outstanding efforts this past weekend at the Little Boston Invitational. Anderson was named ECAC Specialist of the Week and Castrence earned ECAC Gymnast of the Week Honors.
 
Scouting Bridgeport
> Last weekend, Bridgeport placed second in its home quad meet against Yale, Rutgers and SCSU, scoring a 193.750.
> The team posted a 48.600 on vault, 48.575 on floor, 48.550 on bars and 48.250 on beam.
> The Owls lead the series against the Purple Knights, 19-10. The squads last met in 2018 at the Ken Anderson Invite hosted by Temple. The Owls took the victory over Bridgeport, 194.625-191.075.
 
Scouting UNH
> Last time out, UNH edged Iowa 193.950-193.500 in a home dual meet.
> The squad scored a 48.750 on vault, 48.275 on bars, 48.125 on beam and 48.800 on floor.
> The Wildcats hold the advantage in the series, 19-1. In their most recent meeting at a tri meet at Air Force in 2018, UNH overcame Temple, 195.225-193.375.
 
Scouting Pitt
> Pitt opened its season in its home quad meet against No.22 WVU, Utah State and Eastern Michigan. The Panthers took second behind WVU with a 194.750.
> The team posted a 48.950 on vault, 48.350 on bars, 48.875 on beam and 48.875 on floor.
> The Panthers lead the series against the Owls, 16-10. The teams last met in 2018 at a Pitt quad meet. Pitt defeated Temple, 196.475-194.250.
