Ciufo Signs Seven in 2020 Recruiting Class

PHILADELPHIA - In her first signing class since taking the helm of the Temple field hockey program, head coach Susan Ciufo announced the addition of seven incoming freshman to the 2020 Signing Class.
"I am very excited about the 2020 signing class and their passion for Temple field hockey," Ciufo said. "All seven student-athletes joining our program are hard workers, top-notch athletes, and great leaders in their respective schools. The class varies in positions and skill sets, and the combination of their abilities is the perfect fit for what our program needs. Every time we see them play, they continue to impress us with their ongoing development. We have a very bright future and they will add a tremendous amount of athleticism and skill to our program."
Julia Christian | 5-6 | F/M | Wilkes-Barre, Pa. | Wyoming Seminary
Four year letter-winner at Wyoming Seminary...Helped lead her team to a Pennsylvania State Championship her junior year...Named to the Pennsylvania All-State Second Team and earned a Citizen's Voice Honorable Mention her junior year...Helped lead her team to a second-place finish in the State Championship her sophomore year...Earned Dean's List honors...Intends to major in either health professions or biology.
Julia comes from a top-notch high school program that has a history of creating field hockey players at the next level. She is extremely fast, gritty, and highly competitive. Despite her competitive nature, though, Julia's personality is fun and light. Adding her to the 2020 roster was a no-brainer as she adds the perfect balance to our special culture."head coach Susan Ciufo

Kaitlyn Cummins | 5-4 | M | Laurel Springs, N.J. | Camden Catholic
Four year letter-winner at Camden Catholic...Has recorded 31 career goals and 36 career assists...Helped lead her team to a No. 5 state ranking and a No. 25 national ranking...Named to the 2018 NJ High School Olympic Conference First Team and NJ High School All-State Second Team Non Public...2018 NJ High School Olympic Conference Player of the Week...Named to the 2018 MAX Field Hockey All-American watchlist and Second Team All-Region...Holds a 2019 MAX Field Hockey Top-50 ranking...Helped lead her club team to National Futures Championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018, was a 2018 U16 Stars & Stripes selection, and competed in the 2018 AAU Junior Olympics...Intends to major in speech language and hearing sciences.
Kaitlyn is one of the most poised midfielders I have seen. She eliminates defenders at ease through her skills and has the ability to manipulate space. Aside from her own stick skills, Kaitlyn's ability to make others around her better is second to none. She is a playmaker and a true midfielder. Maddie Molchany | 5-6 | D/M | Allentown, Pa. | Parkland HS
Four year letter-winner at Parkland HS...Has recorded 45 career goals and 17 assists...Team captain and leading scorer for Parkland...Ranked fifth in goals scored in her league...First Team East Penn Conference All-Stars...Helped lead her club team to an NCC Championship and earned the Golden Stick Award in 2015...Selected for the Disney Classic and Shooting Star showcases...Played with fellow signee Olivia Vaccari at Parkland...Volunteers with numerous organizations and is a four year honor roll student...Undecided on major.
Maddie was recruited by our staff as a midfielder/defender in the first few months of our arrival. She has an extremely high work rate with an immense amount of aggression that caught our eye immediately. As Maddie entered her senior season we moved she was moved to forward on her high school team and scored over 30 goals. Her ability to be utilized in multiple positions will make her a great asset to our team.head coach Susan Ciufo

Cassie Romanczuk | 5-3 | F | Washington, NJ | Moravian Academy/Notre Dame
Four year letter-winner at Moravian Academy...Has recorded 117 career goals and 31 assists...Senior captain and team MVP...Named to the Morning Call All-Area Field Hockey Team, Colonial All-League First Team, and Team MVP her junior year...Colonial All-League First Team, Morning Call All-Area Field Hockey Team, PHSFHCA Class A All-State First Team, and Team MVP her sophomore year...Named to the Colonial League All-Star Second Team her freshman season...Two-time National Futures Championship selection...Two-time AAU Junior Olympics selection...AAU Junior Olympics Gold Medalist...USA Indoor Field Hockey champion...National Field Hockey Showcase and Festical champion...Also lettered in softball...Intends to major in psychology.
Cassie is a dynamic and dangerous forward in the circle as well as the attacking 25. She is quick to the counterattack and has extremely strong scoring skills. Cassie is a natural scorer and will be an absolute threat in the circle and her feisty style of play will fit in perfectly at Temple. She is really fun to watch and we are looking forward to having her creative style on Broad Street.head coach Susan Ciufo

Myrthe Schuilenburg | 5-5 | F | Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands | Scala College
Letter-winner at Scala College in the Netherlands...Plays as a forward...Undecided on major.
Myrthe is a skillful attacker from the Netherlands, and brings a great awareness for the game with her tactical IQ that will benefit our program as we begin our second year. Her ability to break lines and be a threat in the circle is going to be key to our upward movement as a program at the attacking end. Olivia Vaccari | 5-4 | M/D | Allentown, Pa. | Parkland HS
Four year-letter winner at Parkland HS...Recorded 27 career goals, 21 assists, and 2 defensive saves...Senior captain...First Team All-Star EPC League, Lehigh Valley Live EPC Star of the Week Honorable Mention, EPC League Runner-Up her senior year...Morning Call Player of the Year Honorable Mention her junior year...Lehigh Valley Live EPC Star of the Week Honorable Mention her sophomore year...Helped lead her club team to an NIT Pool National Championship in 2019 and a Pool Championship at the Shooting Star Tournament...Played with fellow signee Maddie Molchany...Also lettered in track & field and was a 2019 EPC League and District 11 qualifier...Member of the National Art Honor Society and earned Principal's Honor Roll...Intends to major in marketing.
Olivia is a standout student-athlete who will add an exciting amount of skill to our roster. She shows a tremendous amount of game sense and competitive nature on the field, and is a player who is always looking to distribute the ball to her teammates on the field. Anna Wickey | 5-6 | M | Huntington Station, NY | Huntington HS
Four year letter-winner at Huntington HS...Recorded 40 career goals and 16 assists...Helped lead her team to a playoff berth as the senior captain...Earned the All-County Award her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, and was an All-County Honorable Mention as a freshman...Helped lead her club team to two National Futures Championships and three National Club Championships, as well as winning the pool at the National Hockey Festival and the National Indoor Tournament...Also lettered in softball...Member of the National Honor Society and St. John's Youth Group, and was a two-time Relay for Life Captain...Undecided on major.
Anna stood out immediately the first time we saw her play. She has a great sense for the game, speed, and cheeky skills to get out of dangerous situations. We are most excited with her raw potential and high ceiling to become great. Anna is a hard worker and competitor who has shown a great understanding of tactical concepts that we're looking forward to build upon, and her athleticism will add a lot to our depth.head coach Susan Ciufo

The Owls saw improvement in Ciufo's first season on Broad Street, recording five more wins than last season, snapping an 18-game losing streak in regular season conference play with a 2-1 overtime victory at Georgetown, and finishing 10 spots higher in RPI.
