STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Temple University track and field team wrapped up a successful opening weekend on Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Bill Ward Invitational, hosted by St. John's University. The Owls captured seven individual titles and put every student-athlete in the top-10 of their respective events to conclude a busy weekend at Ocean Breeze.

Meet Highlights
> Junior Sydney Williams opened up action for the Owls in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 9.13 in the event to finish second overall.
> Temple advanced six runners to finals in the 60m dash, as freshman Chelby Elam, sophomore Brielle Lewis, freshman Zowie Dahn, senior Madison Beecher, freshman Tannekee Strachan and junior Candus Burks all placed in the event's top-seven. Elam took the top spot for the Owls for the second time this season, earning silver with a time of 7.93. Lewis trailed her fellow newcomer by just .01, earning bronze after clocking in at 7.94. The freshman duo of Dahn and Strachan came next, recording respective times of 8.11 and 8.26. Burks and Beecher rounded out the performances for the Owls, taking sixth and seventh with times of 8.26 and 8.28, respectfully.
> Sophomore Emma Seifried put on a solid performance in the mile, clocking in at 5:34.78 to finish fourth overall.
> Marissa White recorded her second individual title of the weekend, this time taking gold in the 500m. The sophomore finished the race in 1:14.68 to win the first event of the day for the Owls. Freshman Sophia Gulotti and junior Mikaela Vlasic accompanied White in the top-five, as Gulotti took third with a time of 1:19.98 and Vlasic finished fourth in 1:20.28.
> Junior Mallorie Smith captured her first victory of the season, winning the 400m with a time of 57.47. Joining her in the top-five was freshman Deyona Banks, who recorded a time of 60.42 in her 400m debut for a fourth place finish overall.
> Lewis and Elam returned to the track to represent the Cherry and White in the 200m. The newcomer duo performed well in the single-lap event, as Lewis took fourth with a time of 26.25 and Elam's mark of 26.88 was good for sixth overall.
> Sophomore Lexi Walsh took gold in the 3000m run for the first time this season, winning the event with a time of 10:52.30.
> For the second time this weekend, Temple brought home a title in the 4x400m relay. The quartet of Smith, Gulotti, Aisha Brown and Candus Burks captured the victory with a time of 4:02.92.
> Temple swept the field events, winning the long, triple and high jumps. Burks captured her second win of the weekend and was crowned the long jump champion with jump of 5.25m, and Strachan took silver with a mark of 5.06. Dahn and Blair Knuckle also competed in the event, recording marks of 4.88m and 4.56m to finish third and fifth, respectively.
> Brown took gold in the high jump for the second time this weekend, besting the competition with a mark of 1.75. Knuckle also competed in the event, taking bronze with a jump of 1.50m. The final win of the day came from Strachan in the triple jump, when she won the event with a solid mark of 11.11m.

> The Owls will take almost a six week hiatus from competition over the holiday break. After the break, the squad will return to compete in the Penn 8-Team Select on Saturday, Jan. 8, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. The meet will be held at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island, N.Y.
