Gymnastics Scores 194.000 at Ohio State Tri Meet

3.2.19 | Women's Gymnastics

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Temple women's gymnastics (8-13, 1-1 ECAC) posted a 194.000 Saturday afternoon in a tri meet matchup against No. 23 Ohio State and No. 24 West Virginia. Temple placed third, as Ohio State won the competition with a 196.850 and West Virginia took second with a 196.100.

Beam 
> Temple started off the competition on beam, scoring a 48.050.
> Freshman Taylor Newland, a Powell, Ohio native, led off the Owls in her home state with a strong 9.7.
> Sophomore Monica Servidio anchored the lineup with a 9.75.
> Sophomore Jordyn Oster and Delaney Garin posted season-bests, each recording a 9.775 to tie for the team-high in the event.

Floor
> The squad recorded a 48.625 on their second event of the afternoon.
> Junior Jaylene Everett and Servidio put on outstanding performances for the Owls, scoring 9.7 and 9.725, respectively.
> Senior India Anderson put on yet another electric floor routine, tying for third place with a 9.85.  

Vault 
> Temple posted a 48.625 in its third rotation, tying its second-best vault score of the season.
> Servidio continued her strong performance with a 9.725 and Everett was excellent in the fifth spot with a 9.775.
> Castrence was huge for the Owls, as she tied for third in the event with a 9.825.

Bars
> Bars was the Owls' best event of the afternoon, as they scored a 48.7. This ties the squad's second-highest bars score of the season.
> Castrence, sophomore Tori Edwards and junior Jazmyn Estrella were stellar on bars, each posting a 9.7.
> Garin and junior Daisy Todd were superb for the Owls, scoring a 9.725 and 9.75, respectively.
> Servidio reset her career-best with a 9.825, shattering her previous mark of 9.75.

All-Around
> Castrence and Servidio competed in the all-around for the Owls. Servidio took fifth place with a 39.025. This performance ties her second-highest all-around score of the season.

From the Coach
> "We had a tough start on beam, but I'm happy that the team stayed loose," said head coach Josh Nilson. "I never saw a point where they checked out. I'm proud of how they stuck together and kept fighting. This will be a very experienced team heading into ECACs."

Up Next
> Temple will return home on Friday, March 8 to host Maryland, Southern Connecticut State and West Chester for Alumni Night. Competition is set to begin at 7 p.m.
