Field Hockey to Open Big East Play

PHILADELPHIA- In its best four-game start since 2014, the Temple field hockey team will close out a three-game homestand this weekend with No. 16 Liberty and Drexel. The Owls are undefeated at home and have not conceded a goal at Howarth Field in 2019. 

Scouting Temple
> Temple is off to a hot start this season, recording three-straight home shutouts. The Owls posted 3-0 wins against Merrimack and La Salle in their opening weekend before defeating Bryant 2-0 last weekend. The team is undefeated at Howarth Field heading into the weekend and is posting the best four-match start since 2014.
> Redshirt-freshman Kerrie Lorenz and junior Dani Batze lead the team in goals with two each, with Batze also recording the team's two defensive saves.
> Claire Thomas recorded her first career goal against the Bulldogs, with the sophomore recording the match-winner off a rebound shot.
> Goalkeeper Cristina Carotenuto had an impressive start to 2019, tying her season-high of four saves against Merrimack to open the season. The junior moved up 18 spots to tie for 17th in the nation in save percentage (.786), and comes in at sixth with a 0.750 GAA.

Scouting Liberty
> Liberty comes to the City of Brotherly Love undefeated, conceding just three goals in four matches and posting two shutouts. 
> The team is tied for third place in the NCAA in goals per game (4.25), coming in at second for winning margin (3.50).
> Keeper Allison Schaefer is tied with Temple keeper Cristina Carotenuto for sixth in the nation with a 0.750 GAA. Both keepers are tied for 17th in save percentage (.786).
> The Flames were selected to finish second in the Big East, earning one first-place vote in the preseason poll.

Series History vs. Liberty
> Temple and Liberty are meeting for the sixth time in series history, with the Flames holding a 4-1 advantage.
> The last meeting between the two teams was in 2018, with the Owls falling 8-2.

Scouting Drexel
> Drexel is 1-4 heading into the weekend, having faced Monmouth on Friday. Both Temple and the Dragons have faced Bryant this season, with both blanking the Bulldogs.
> Depsite the team's win-loss total, the Dragons have a fairly potent offense. Drexel has scored a goal in each match and at least two goals in three matches. The team Has recorded 62 shots in five matches, putting just over half (36) on target.
> The team has played two goalies this season, facing 64 shots and allowing 13 goals.

> Temple and Drexel are meeting for the 33rd time in series history, with the Owls holding an 18-12-1 advantage.
> The last meeting between the two teams was in 2018, with the Dragons earning a 2-1 double overtime victory.
