Kerrie Lorenz Named BIG EAST Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Redshirt freshman midfielder Kerrie Lorenz, who helped lead Temple Field Hockey to a 2-0 start to the 2019 season, has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 1. It is Lorenz's first weekly conference honor and the first BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week by an Owl since All-American Amber Youtz earned the honor in 2014.
Lorenz led the Owls in scoring with two goals and one assist as Temple defeated Merrimack (Aug. 30) and La Salle (Sept. 1) by identical 3-0 scores. It marked the first time Temple opened a season with consecutive shutout wins since 2008.
The Virginia Beach, Va. native scored her first career goal against Merrimack, giving the Owls a 2-0 cushion in the contest. It was one of her game-high five shots (4 on goal). Against La Salle, Lorenz assisted on the team's first goal and then capped the scoring with a tremendous individual effort in the 50th minute.
Temple is back in action this weekend with two games in Kent, Ohio. The Owls play at Kent State on Friday (11 am) and then take on #24 Maine Saturday (9 am) at Kent State.
