Three Named 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction

GILBERT, Ariz. - Three Owls have been named Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction, with Dani Batze, Natalie Burns, and Megan Phillips all earning the honor. The trio is part of 167 student-athletes to be tabbed.

The Division I Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.

Batze, an advertising major with a 3.96 GPA, started in 16 of the team's 17 games last season. The Owls' leader in goals (6), she also led the team with five defensive saves to rank eighth in the nation. Burns, a risk management and insurance major with a 3.94 GPA, scored her first career goal for the Owls against La Salle. The Sewell, N.J. native fired four shots with three on target. Phillips, a public relations major with a 4.0 GPA, played in 11 of the team's 17 games as a freshman and recorded an assist on the game-winner over La Salle.

19 Owls were previously named to the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. The previous week, Temple was announced as a Division I National Academic Team for earning a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2019-20 school year. The Owls were well above the mark, earning a semester GPA of 3.37 in the fall.
