Men’s Basketball Falls on Senior Night to AAC Leader Tulsa

3.4.20 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA –Tulsa proved it belongs at the top of the American Athletic Conference with a convincing 61-51 win over Temple Wednesday to spoil the Owls Senior Night celebration.   The loss was the fourth straight for Temple (14-16, 6-11 AAC) while Tulsa (21-9, 13-4 AAC) took over sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

Game Summary
> Tulsa's zone frustrated Temple again, holding the Owls to 51 points after limiting the Cherry and White to 44 in the previous game.  The Owls were also held to 29.8 shooting from the field, and 23.1 from three-point range.
> Quinton Rose was the only Temple player to top double figures, tallying 15 points in his final home game.
> Fellow senior Damion Moore had one of the best games of his career, scoring none points, tying his career high with 10 rebounds and doubling his career high with four blocks.
> Nate Pierre-Louis had a game-high 12 rebounds, but was held to just four points.
> Martins Igbanu led all scorers with 17 points for Tulsa while Brandon Rachel added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

First Half
> Moore started off his Senior Night strong, scoring six of the Owls first eight points to give Temple an early 8-3 lead.
> The Owls continued to hold the lead until the Golden Hurricane, trailing 15-11, ran off five straight points to go ahead by one on a Rachel layup with just under nine minutes remaining in the half.
> Tulsa then opened up a 23-17 advantage courtesy of a 7-2 mini-run, forcing a Temple timeout with 5:30 left.
> The Golden Hurricane defense clamped down over the final minutes of the half during a 5-1 run to give the visitors their largest lead, 31-24, at the break.
> Temple shot just 29.6 percent from the field in the half, while committing seven turnovers to Tulsa's three.

Second Half
> Tulsa picked up right where it left off, scoring the first 11 points to take a commanding 42-24 lead at the 13:16 mark.
> Rose finally broke the drought with a jumper less than a minute later, but the Tulsa zone continued to keep the Owls offense at bay.
> Tulsa extended its lead to 20 points, 48-28, with 10 minutes to play on an Igbanu layup.
> The Owls would not go quietly, running off seven of the next nine points capped by a Rose three-point play, to close to within a dozen, 51-39.
> Temple later cut the deficit to eight, 58-50, on a Rose three-pointer with 38 seconds left, but the Golden Hurricane made three-of-four to seal the win at the line.
