Phillips Named Top Freshman in PR Major
4.30.20 | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA - Field hockey freshman Megan Phillips was named Top Freshman for the PR major following an impressive year in the classroom. In addition, Phillips also earned the Dr. Jean Brodey Scholarship.
The Top Freshman recognition is awarded "for excellence in the 1000-level major courses." Phillips earned a 4.0 GPA in her first semester on Broad Street, and participated in covering the New Hampshire Primaries in February.
The Dr. Jean Brodey Scholarship was created in 2018 to commemorate Dr. Jean Brodey, a Temple public relations professor for nearly 30 years. To be selected, Phillips submitted an essay, resume, and letters of recommendation from her professors.
"I was so excited and caught off guard to hear my name called not once but twice at the Zoom ceremony," Phillips said. "After a challenging year of trying to figure out a balance between academics, athletics, and pushing to get involved involved elsewhere on campus, it was such a great moment to receive this recognition. I am so grateful for the people surrounding me that continue to inspire and push me, especially my outstanding professors, coaches, the Resnick Center staff, and my supportive friends and family. I also appreciate the amazing opportunities that Temple is continually creating for its students."
The Ardmore, Pa. native saw action in nine games this fall, recording one assist on the game-winner against Drexel.
