Gymnastics Improves for Week Two; Owls Compete at Towson

TOWSON, Md. — In week two of competition, the Temple gymnastics team improved its team score, recording a 193.600 on the road at Towson's tri-meet on Friday night. All three teams were separated by just one team point, with #21 NC State finishing with a 194.600, followed by Towson at 194.225, and Temple, just .625 off the Tigers.

Meet Notes
> Temple got its first road score of the season, improving on last week's score by over a point.
> The Owls had three podium finishes, including a pair from junior Ariana Castrence (VT - 2nd; UB - 3rd). 
> Senior Faith Leary took second on floor, her second podium finish on the event in two weeks.
> Freshman Lanie Hyman made her career debut leading the team off on vault, a week after exhibitioning the event.

Beam
> Temple didn't count a fall on beam, but finished with just a 47.200 after several uncharacteristically low scores. 
> Junior Julianna Roland led the Owls with a 9.600 with senior Jordyn Oster scoring a 9.575.

Floor
> Another strong floor rotation gave the Owls some momentum after the second rotation, as the team combined to score a 48.775.
> A 9.850 from Leary led the way for Temple, while Roland scored a 9.825 and Oster finished with a 9.775

Vault
> The Owls put together a 48.925 on vault in their third rotation, with Castrence's 9.850 leading the team and finishing second overall.
> Roland had another strong week on vault with a 9.825, while sophomore Madison Brooks matched her score.
> Hyman led off the event with a 9.725 while senior Tori Edwards notched a 9.700.

Bars
> Temple rebounded from last week's bars score with a 48.700 tonight.
> Castrence had the highest score of the event for Temple, with a 9.825 that put her third overall.
> Gray notched a solid 9.775 while the Owls got high scores from freshman Cyrena Whalen (9.750) and junior Nichole Smith (9.700).

Up Next
> Temple will continue its road stretch next weekend, traveling to Denver for a match-up of a pair of top-10 teams. The Owls will face off against the #7 Pioneers and the #2 Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday.
