Volleyball travels Southwest to Wichita State and Tulsa in AAC play

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple volleyball team will look to pick up their first victories of the season against their weekend opponents, Wichita State and Tulsa, as they take to the road for the first of two-straight weekends.
 
Starting on Friday night, Nov. 12, the Owls will take on the Wichita State Shockers at 8 p.m. ET and close out the weekend at the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. ET. Both matches will be available on the ESPN+ app.
 
OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
  • The Owls will play four-straight games on the road starting this weekend with Wichita State on Friday, Nov. 12, and then rounding out the weekend with a match against Tulsa on Sunday afternoon. Temple heads into the weekend with a 5-20 overall record and 1-13 AAC play.
  • Gem Grimshaw ranks seventh in the AAC as she leads the Owls' offense on the right side with 3.34 kills per set. She is also one of the leaders defensively as she digs 2.42 balls per frame, ranking her second on the team.
  • Miray Bolukbasi (3.27 k/s ) and Katerina Papazoglu (1.27 k/s ) also provide offense from the outside. Taylor Davenport averages 1.45 kills per set at the middle blocker position, with a team-leading 1.15 blocks per set, good for fourth in the conference.
  • Freshman Patrycja Zielinska quarterbacks the offense to the tune of 8.25 assists per frame.Libero Falinka Danielson is fifth in the American with 4.01 digs per set.
 
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
  • The Shockers pulled out a five-set win at home versus Tulsa on Wednesday, Nov. 10, behind the efforts of Morgan Stout's 13 kills and 11 blocks. Stout's double-double gave her team a 25-14, 25-14, 22-25, 23-25, 16-14 win and improved to 16-8 overall and 10-5 in the AAC.
  • On the season, WSU is top three in the conference in reference to opponent hitting percentage.From the libero position, Lily Leikweg's 4.12 digs per set is a catalyst to keeping the opponents to a .196 hitting percentage.
  • Offensively, Natalie Foster is ranked fifth in the conference with a .325 hitting percentage. Teammate Brylee Kelly is sixth in the AAC, putting away 3.37 balls per set. Setter Kayce Litzau is one of three setters in the conference averaging 10 sets per set. Litzau ranks third in the American with 10.02 assists per frame.
 
TEMPLE VS. WICHITA STATE
  • WSU took down Temple in Philadelphia earlier this season, Oct. 24, after they dropped the first set, but it bounced back to earn the four-set victory, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-19. In the early season matchup, Miray Bolukbasi notched her second of four-straight double-doubles as she led the Owls with 15 kills and 13 digs in the loss to the Shockers.
  • Wichita State owns a 4-2 all-time advantage over Temple.
  • This will be the first visit to Koch Arena for the Cherry and White since 2018 as they will look for their first win in Wichita in their third appearance.
 
SCOUTING TULSA
  • The Golden Hurricane fell to 12-12 overall and 7-8 in the AAC with a five-set (14-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-23, 14-16) loss on Wednesday night, Nov. 10.Tulsa fell just short of the come from behind victory after dropping the first two sets by the score of 25-14.Kaley Cassaday led all hitters in the match with 21 kills, while Maddie Flora and Marta Pecalli led Tulsa with two services aces apiece.
  • Cassaday is one of the leaders in the conference, with 3.69 kills per set, ranking her fourth in the AAC.
    With 4.55 digs per frame, Pecalli is the second-best libero in the American.
 
TEMPLE VS. TULSA
  • Tulsa swept the Owls by the score of 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 in the Oct. 22 match in Philadelphia. Miray Bolukbasi had her first of four-straight double-doubles with a match-high of 16 kills and 11 digs. Temple libero Falanika Danielson and middle blocker Taylor Davenport kept their team with contest-highs of 19 digs and five blocks, respectively.
  • The Owls lead the all-time series, 7-5. However, Tulsa has won the last four matches, all sweeps, including the last three on the road.
  • The last time the two schools played in Tulsa occurred on Oct. 28, 2018, in the Reynolds Center.
  • Temple and Tulsa began the series in 2014 as they went on to win seven of the first eight matches.
