Men's Basketball Snaps Three-Game Skid with 75-58 Win over Elon

11.21.21 | Men's Basketball

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Jeremiah Williams scored a career-high 22 points and Khalif Battle had a game and season-high 28 to lead Temple to a 75-58 win over Elon in the seventh-place game of the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic Sunday morning at TD Arena.

Williams nearly had a triple-double as he had a game-high eight assists and tied Battle and Sage Tolbert III for game-high honors with eight rebounds.  He came into the game making only one-of-11 from the free throw line but drained 13-of-14 to help seal the victory.

Recapping the Game
First Half
> The first half was a game of mini runs by each team.
> Elon took advantage of three Temple turnovers over a four-minute stretch to go on an 8-2 run in taking a 16-9 lead at the midway point of the half.
> The Owls answered with their own 8-2 run, started by a steal and dunk by Jahlil White and capped with a Williams three-pointer, cutting the deficit to 18-17.
> The Phoenix went on another 8-2 run, ignited by five points from Hunter McIntosh, to extend the margin back to seven, 26-19, with 5:02 on the clock.
> The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half with Elon holding a 33-26 lead at the break.

Second Half
> Temple came out strong to start the second half with Tolbert pulling down an offensive rebound and finding Battle for a three-pointer. Jake Forrester then slammed home a miss by Tolbert to cut the deficit to 33-31 and forcing an Elon timeout at the 18:40 mark.
> The Owls would tie the game at 33 following the timeout, but Michael Graham ended the Temple run with a layup to put the Phoenix back on top.
> After going back and forth, the Owls would score 10 straight to take their first lead of the contest, 48-40, with just under 14 to play.
> After the Phoenix cut it to five, 53-48, the Owls turned up the heat to close out the game on a 22-10 run.  Williams scored 11 in the stretch of the drive, making nine-of-10 from the line.

Statistically Speaking
