Volleyball Tops UConn to Sweep Season Series

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over visiting UConn on Sunday afternoon at home. The Owls won with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, and 25-18 to sweep the season series against the Huskies. Temple improves to 7-4 overall, while UConn dips to 2-4 overall.
How It Happened
> Temple started fast, opening up a big lead on the Huskies, before UConn made it close down the stretch. Temple held on, however, taking set one, 25-22.
> Another tight set followed, but it was Temple again with the close win, hitting .289 in the 25-23 final.
> UConn got on the board in the third set, narrowing the lead to 2-1, with a 25-22 win.
> Temple closed it out with the most lopsided frame, hitting .302 to win 25-18 and 3-1.
> The Owls hit .271 for the match, holding UConn to a .209 attack.
Individual Highlights
> Temple had five players in double digits in kills, led double-doubles from juniors Miray Bolukbasi (16 kills, 15 digs) and Gem Grimshaw (14 kills, 11 digs).
> Senior Katerina Papazoglou notched 12 kills with nine digs, while sophomore Kayla Spells and freshman Taylor Davenport each added 11 kills.
> Junior Tyler Lindgren dished out 57 assists, setting a new career high in the win. She added 17 digs to complete a double-double.
> Freshman Falanika Danielson led all players with 21 digs on the day.
Set One: Temple 25, UConn 22
> Temple led big in the first set, going up 8-1 to start, and increasing the advantage to 12-2.
> UConn chipped away, eventually cutting it to 24-22, but Temple got the final kill from Papazoglou to win it.
Set Two: Temple 25, UConn 23
> Another tight set followed, as neither team could gain momentum early.
> Temple led 15-13 midway through action and then was the first to 20 points, before another late UConn rally.
> The Huskies cut the score to 24-23, spoiling a pair of set points before Bolukbasi found the floor to put Temple up 2-0 in the match.
Set Three: UConn 25, Temple 22
> Six ties started the third set before UConn took a slight 11-8 advantage.
> The Huskies stayed on top by around three points until Temple rallied to cut it to 19-18.
