4.13.21 | Field Hockey
NEW YORK - Temple field hockey freshman Myrthe Schuilenburg was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after scoring her first career goal to seal the win over Villanova on Sunday afternoon. Junior Nienke Oerlemans was also honored for her performance this weekend, being named to the Weekly Honor Roll. This is the first honor of the season for both Oerlemans and Schuilenburg.
Schuilenburg scored the go-ahead goal Sunday afternoon to defeat Villanova and keep Temple's BIG EAST Tournament hopes alive. She fired two shots with one on frame to put her season total at six.
Oerlemans scored the first goal against the Wildcats on Sunday, her team-leading fourth of the season. She also assisted one Caitlyn Amsden's game-tying goal in the fourth quarter. The Apeldoorn, Netherlands native led the backline that held the Wildcats to nine shots in two games, with just five on target, and successfully defended six of eight penalty corners.
The Owls will close out the regular season Thursday afternoon against Big 5 rival La Salle. Temple will find out if it will earn a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament Sunday after a pair of games between Providence and Old Dominion.Â
