Carotenuto, Novakova Named to NFHCA Division I Senior Team
5.19.21 | Field Hockey
The in-person 2020 NFHCA Senior Game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the 2021 Virtual Coaches Caucus, the NFHCA Division I membership agreed to continue to recognize a selected group from the graduating class of 2021 who either played or would have played their senior season during the 2020-2021 academic year. All ten Division I conferences and five NCAA regions that sponsor field hockey are represented on the list of 2020 honorees. The selected student-athletes were nominated by their NFHCA member coach and were chosen based on their career accomplishments.Â
Carotenuto came up big for the Owls all season in the cage. Her season GAA of 1.55 ranks eighth in program history for single-season GAA and was fourth in the BIG EAST. She recorded 64 saves on 185 shots faced for a .688 save percentage and helped lead the Owls to five shutouts in 2021. The Allentown, Pa. native led the team in regular-season honors, being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll four times. Carotenuto was one of four Owls to earn postseason honors, earning a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.Â
Novakova made an immediate impact on the Temple field hockey program. Two of her team-leading four goals have been game-winners, including the game-winner in the season opener against Hofstra. Firing a team-leading 24 shots, she put 10 on target for a .417 shots on goal percentage. The Prague, Czech Republic native also led the team in assists with five and shared penalty corner inserting duties with junior Nienke Oerlemans. Novakova was one of four Owls to earn postseason honors, earning a spot on the All-Conference First Team.
