Field Hockey Announces 2021 Schedule

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team has released its 2021 schedule, as announced by interim head coach Michelle Vittese. The schedule is highlighted by nine home games, four games against Philadelphia opponents, and seven league games.
The Owls will get a preseason tuneup with an exhibition game at Monmouth (Aug. 22) before opening the slate with Merrimack at home on Aug. 27. Temple will hit the road to face in-city rival Drexel on Aug. 29 and Hofstra on Sept. 3, returning to North Broad to host Bucknell (Sept. 5).
The Cherry and White will see another two-game road trip, facing Fairfield on Sept. 12 and opening BIG EAST play at Quinnipiac on Sept. 17. The team will then play a three-game homestand, including two Big 5 opponents. Temple will host Saint Joseph's on Sept. 19 and continue league play against Villanova on Sept. 24 before closing out September with Delaware (Sept. 26).
October will open the Owls' longest road stretch of the season, with two conference matchups on the slate. Temple will face Georgetown on Oct. 1 and Providence on Oct. 3 before heading down the road to Lehigh (Oct. 10).
The Owls will host Liberty on Oct. 15 and James Madison on Oct. 17 for a weekend in Philadelphia heading to Virginia to face Old Dominion (Oct. 22). Temple's final homestand will be against Lafayette (Oct. 24) and UConn on Oct. 29 to close out the team's home schedule, with the regular-season finale at Penn on Oct. 31.
Temple is coming off another season of improvement, doubling its conference win total from the previous season and advancing to the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2016. The Cherry and White welcomed nine newcomers in the offseason, with seven freshmen and two grad transfers being added to the squad.
