Gymnastics Earns Meet Victory in Sunday Dual with LIU

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – On Sunday afternoon, the Temple Owls women's gymnastics team defeated the Long Island Sharks, 195.800-193.850, for their second overall meet victory of the season.
 
"Great team effort tonight by our team tonight! The team is doing great and is on track. We are still making some little mistakes, but overall, they are settling into their roles and adjusting the small things. Individually, Hannah (Stallings) won another all-around title, and Sarah (Stallings) and Hannah tied for the highest vault scores in the meet as well." said Temple head coach Josh Nilson.
 
MEET NOTES
> The Owls earned a season-high 12 9.8's or better during the dual meet, surpassing last weekend's nine at the University of New Hampshire Dual Meet.
> The Owls earned a season-high on the vault and bars. Temple earned a 49.075 on the vault and a 48.800 on the bars.
> It was the fourth straight meet that freshman Hannah Stallings picked up the all-around victory. The Raleigh, N.C. native tied the fifth-highest mark in school history with a 39.250.
 
Bars
> After the first rotation, the Cherry and White led LIU by the score of 48.800 to 47.975.
> Ariana Castrence led the Owls on the event with a 9.825, marking the 16th time in her career she put together a 9.8 or better on bars.
> Four Owls including, Castrence (9.825), Madison Brooks (9.725), Cyrena Whalen (9.775), and Caitlin Gray (9.775) put together season-highs on bars.
> Gray's 9.775 also tied her personal-high.
 
Vault
> After the second rotation, Temple led the Sharks, 97.825-97.125
> All six Owl vaulters scored a 9.775 or better, including sisters Sarah Stallings and Hannah Stallings leading the way with 9.850's and the event title.
> Sarah Stallings score of 9.850 eclipsed her previous personal best of 9.750 set last week at the UNH Tri-Meet.
> Senior Ariana Castrence's 9.8 gives her 16 for her career of 9.8 or better.
> Senior Julianna Roland also added a 9.8, giving her eight in her three-year owl career.
> Freshman Anna Hill earned a new career-high, 9.775, surpassing the 9.725 during the first weekend's Keystone Classic.
 
Floor
> Graduate student Tori Edwards helped her team to a 146.800-145.575 advantage after the third rotation as she tied her season-high of 9.875 from a week ago at the UNH Tri-Meet.
> The Owls' last four gymnasts earned a 9.8 or better, including Edwards. Hannah Stallings earned a season-high 9.850, Brooke Donabedian connected with a 9.825, and Faith Leary tallied a 9.8 from the judges.
> The 9.8 score from Leary was the 17th time she's achieved a 9.8 or better in her career.
 
Beam
> The Owls closed out the meet with a 48.950 on beam and the meet victory.
> Four of the six TU gymnasts earned 9.8's or better, including the overall meet-high from Hannah Stallings, who added a season-high 9.850.
> Ariana Castrence and Brooke Donabedian matched 9.825 scores, marking it the 14th and 9th times respectively in their careers they tallied 9.8's or better.
> Julianna Roland anchored the beam team with a 9.8, marking the seventh time her Temple career she's earned a 9.8 or better.
 
On Friday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. ET, Temple returns to the gym when they visit Towson in a tri-meet with Eastern Michigan and this same LIU team.
