Gymnastics Travels to Towson For Quad Meet

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple gymnastics team travels to Towson to compete in a quad meet with the Tigers, Eastern Michigan, and LIU on Friday at 6 p.m. ET at SECU Arena.
Friday's meet will be the fourth of five consecutive road meets the Owls will compete in before returning to home for the Pink Meet on Feb. 18 versus Yale in McGonigle Hall.
ONE TOUCH WARM UP
The Owls will be on the road for the fourth straight of five consecutive weekend trips as they travel to Towson to take on Eastern Michigan and LIU at the SECU Arena. The consecutive weekend trips started in Des Moines, Iowa, at the Chows Winter Classic on Jan. 15 and will conclude at North Carolina on Feb. 12.
The Owls added their second overall meet win of the season last Sunday at LIU as they defeated the Sharks, 195.800-193.850.
The 195.800 score was the second-highest score in the month of January in program history. On the vault earned their highest team score of the season (49.075), scored 48.000 on bars, 48.950 on beam, and their second-highest score of the season on the floor (48.975).
It was the second consecutive week that the Owls hit at least a 195 score. At the LIU Tri-Meet on Jan. 23, the Cherry and White earned a 195.825, the highest January score in school history, topping the 2020 season-opening score 195.575 against Illinois.
Temple freshman Hannah Stallings picked up her fourth straight all-around win at LIU as she tied the fifth-highest score in program history (39.250).
The Owls earned a season-high 12 9.8's or better during the dual meet versus LIU last weekend. Those numbers surpassed the nine at the Tri-Meet at New Hampshire.
Temple goes into this weekend's tri-meet with a 5-56 all-time record against Towson, 4-0 against LIU, and 1-6 against Eastern Michigan.
The Owls have an average team score of 194.900, good for No. 34 in the country. Towson comes in No. 39 with an average of 194.775, Eastern Michigan is No. 47 with average of 194.150, and LIU averages 192.881, good for No. 53.
LAST TIMEOUT
Bars
Ariana Castrence led the Owls on the bars with a 9.825, marking the 16th time in her career she put together a 9.8 or better. Four Owls including, Castrence (9.825), Madison Brooks (9.725), Cyrena Whalen (9.775), and Caitlin Gray (9.775) put together season-highs on the apparatus. Gray's 9.775 also tied her personal-high.
Vault
All six Owl vaulters scored a 9.775 or better, including sisters Hannah and Sarah Stallings leading the team with 9.850's and earning the event title. Sarah Stallings' score of 9.850 eclipsed her previous personal best of 9.750, set at UNH Tri-Meet on Jan. 23. Castrence earned a 9.8, giving her 16 or more 9.8's or better in her career. Senior Julianna Roland also added a 9.8, giving her eight in her three-year owl career. Freshman Anna Hill earned a new career-high, 9.775, surpassing the 9.725 during the first weekend's Keystone Classic on Jan. 7.
Floor
Graduate student Tori Edwards has amassed 23 scores of 9.8 or better in her career after matching her season-high score of 9.875. The Owls' last four gymnasts earned a 9.8 or better on the floor, including Edwards. Hannah Stallings earned a season-high 9.850, Brooke Donabedian connected with a 9.825, and Faith Leary tallied a 9.8 from the judges. The 9.8 score from Leary was the 17th time she's achieved a 9.8 or better in her career.
Beam
The Owls closed out the meet with a 48.950 on beam and the meet victory with their second-highest mark on the event this season. Four of the six TU gymnasts earned 9.8's or better, including the overall meet-high from Hannah Stallings, who added a season-high 9.850. Ariana Castrence and Brooke Donabedian matched 9.825 scores, marking it the 14th and 9th times respectively in their careers they tallied 9.8's or better. Julianna Roland anchored the beam team with a 9.8, marking her seventh career 9.8 or better in the Temple colors.
OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
Temple ranks third of the eight EAGL teams, averaging 194.900 in four meets.
Hannah Stallings is ranked third in the EAGL and 51st in the nation with a 39.075. Stallings 39.250 at the LIU Dual Meet tied her for fifth-best score in school history, tying her with teammate Ariana Castrence's mark from 2020.
As a team, Temple ranks second in the conference on the floor with a 48.894 average score. They are also third on the vault with a 48.838. In addition, over the span of four meet, the Owls have accumlated 28 9.8's or better including two 9.9's.
SCOUTING LIU
Long Island University goes into this weekend's quad meet with a 2-4 overall record and 0-2 in EAGL competitions and ranked eighth in the conference.
The last time out in a dual meet with Temple, the Sharks fell 195.800-193.850.
In the loss, Freshman Karsyn Foster had the highest score for the Sharks on beam as she tallied a career-best 9.775. Long Island had four of its six gymnasts put together scores of 9.8 or better on the bars. Ella Castellnos earned a 9.800, Lauren Miller earned a tie for third place with a 9.825, sophomore Jah'Liyah Bedminster came in second with a 9.875, but teammate Mara Titarsolej took the win on the event with a 9.925. On the beam, freshman Ilka Juk had the team-high in the event with a 9.750. The Sharks finished the dual meet against Owls on the floor exercise as Amanda Loo picked up the event win with a 9.9. Sophomore Regan Jones scored a career-high 9.800, and fellow sophomore Ella Barrington recorded a 9.750.
On Jan. 23, LIU collected its first-ever overall meet win as a gymnastics program while setting a new team school record. The Sharks took down the Yale Bulldogs in a meet that came down to the final event, 194.200-193.875.
In the meet victory, Lauren Miller had the highest score for the Sharks on the vault with a 9.725. In the second rotation, sophomore Mara Titarsolej led LIU to a school-record 48.700 on bars as she secured the event win a 9.90. Freshman Ilka Juk led the team on beam with a personal-best 9.825 in the third rotation. Amanda Loo anchored the team with a 9.800, the highest score in the rotation.
LIU is at the bottom of the league's team rankings in three of the four events. On the floor, the team has averaged 47.944. On the beam, the Sharks have averaged 48.213, and on the vault, they have an average of 48.850. The Sharks are sixth in the conference on the bars, averaging 48.431. Titarsolej is the highest-ranked LIU gymnast of the four events as she's ranked 11th on the bars with a 9.775.
SCOUTING TOWSON
Towson is ranked fourth overall in the EAGL standings with a 194.900 average and features a 5-2 overall record. It heads into the quad meet 2-2 against EAGL opponents.
Last Friday, the Tigers split a tri-meet at the North Carolina with Pittsburgh. The Tigers defeated Pittsburgh 195.975-194.30 but fell to the Tar Heels 195.975-196.00. Towson would score 49.000 or better during the meet in three of the four rotations.
Grace Vaillancourt tied for first on bars with a 9.850, while Jenna Weitz led the Tigers to a season-high score (49.150) on beam as she added a first-place score of 9.875. On the vault, Towson scored four 9.825's or better as it was led by Camille Vitoff's 9.850 while Lauren Bolen, Mia Davis, and Elise Tisler all recorded 9.825's.
Towson is ranked third on the bars in the EAGL as they have averaged 48.669. The black and gold have three gymnasts ranked in the top 10 on the apparatus, including Steph Macasu (9.838), Vaillancourt (9.794), and Clara Hong (9.781). Towson also goes into this weekend on the balance beam, ranked third with a 48.750 average. Cassidy Stuart and Vaillancourt are third (9.875) and eighth (9.813), respectively, in the EAGL.
SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN
The last time out, Eastern Michigan tied for second during the EMU Quad Meet as they tied with Ball State with a score of 195.025. It earned a win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh 195.025-191.650 but fell to Western Michigan 195.025-196.100.
Last time out, Eastern started on vault and was led by senior Kara Roberts and junior Molly Parris, who earned a score of 9.750 to tie for eighth overall, while freshman Ella Chemotti earned a career-high 9.725. On bars, Raisa Boris notched a personal-best 9.850. Boris placed second on the apparatus, while Parris chipped in with a 9.80 for third. The Eagles had a pair of 9.9's on beam as Chemotti earned their second-highest score on beam in school history with a 9.950, and Caitlin Satler scored a 9.9. Satler led the way on the floor for Eastern as she closed out the meet with a 9.825, while Roberts added a 9.800 to take fourth and fifth, respectively.
