Gymnastics Ties Two School Records in Second-Place Finish at Towson Quad Meet

Roland leads Temple with a pair of 9.9's at Towson

TOWSON, Md. – The Temple gymnastics team rallied from 2.150 points down to earn a second-place finish with a 194.650 score by tying two school records in the final rotations at the Towson Quad Meet on Friday night.

MEET NOTES
> Senior Julianna Roland led Owls on the night with a pair (vault, floor) of 9.9's, including matching her career-high and matching the school record on the vault for the fourth time in her two seasons on Broad Street.
> The Owls tied two school records on Friday night, including a score of 49.375 on the floor exercise and a 49.150 on the vault.
> Freshman Hannah Stallings won her fifth consecutive all-around title with a 38.350.
 
Bars
> The Owls started on bars and put together a 48.475 but trailed Towson by .775 points which began on vault.
> Three of the six Temple gymnasts scored 9.7's or better, including team leader Ariana Castrence's team-high 9.775.
> Sisters Hannah and Sarah Stallings scored a pair of 9.7's.
> Madison Brooks and Cyrena Whalen also had matching scores of 9.650.
 
Beam
> The Cherry and White had their lowest beam score of the season with a 47.650.
> The beam struggles put Temple behind by 2.150 points and in fourth place after the second rotation.
> Sophomore Renee Schugman led off for the Owls on the apparatus and had a team-high 9.775.
> Freshman Summer Ruskey matched her career-high score of 9.725 from last weekend's dual meet at LIU.
 
Floor
> The Owls began their ascent up the scorecard in the third rotation as they tied the school record with a 49.375.
> Each of the six Temple gymnasts scored at least a 9.825 during the rotation.
> Senior Julianna Roland matched her career-high for the sixth time as she put together a 9.9 floor score, earning second place
> Graduate students Tori Edwards and Faith Leary, and Schugman tied for third place with 9.875's. Schugman tied a personal best as she led off for the Cherry and White.
> In addition, sophomore Brooke Donabedian and Hannah Stallings added a 9.850 and 9.825, respectively.
 
Vault
> TU closed out the night on a high as it tied the program record on the vault with a 49.150.
> Roland added her second 9.9 of the evening, giving her a first-place finish, and the second of the season on the apparatus
> Freshman Anna Hill reset her career-best on vault with a 9.825.
> Castrence tied for second place on the vault with a 9.875, the 18th time in her career with a 9.8 or better.

Temple will be on the road at North Carolina on Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. ET before they return home to McGonigle Hall on Feb. 18 for the annual Pink Meet.
