Oerlemans Named All-Region First Team

GENEVA, N.Y. - Graduate student Nienke Oerlemans has been named to the Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, as announced by the NFHCA Tuesday afternoon. This is the defender's third-straight All-Region honor.Â
Oerlemans led the team's backline, handling the majority of the team's penalty corner insert duties. She recorded four goals, including two game winners, and posted nine shots with six on target. She posted three of the team's five defensive saves, ranking second in the BIG EAST and 24th in the nation. Oerlemans will end her time in Cherry and White tied for 20th in active career defensive saves.
The Apeldoorn, Netherlands native was named to the All-Conference First Team and the BIG EAST All-Tournament team, and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 6.
The No. 23 Temple field hockey team had its best season in nearly a decade, going 13-6 (4-3 BIG EAST) and entering the NFHCA rankings for the first time since 2014. The Owls advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament for the third-straight season, falling to No. 13 Old Dominion in a shootout. The team finished the season at No. 23 in RPI, its best finish since finishing No. 11 in 2014.
Division I teams are separated into five regions: Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Northeast, South and West — each region honors up to 16 student-athletes on a first team and up to 16 student-athletes on a second team. The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the NFHCA over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on November 30, they will be followed by the NFHCA All-American teams on December 13 and the NFHCA National Player of the Year on December 15.
