Men's Basketball Hosts Wagner in Season Opener Monday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple tips off its 2022-23 season Monday against Wagner (7 pm/ESPN+/1210 AM WPHT).  The Owls have won six straight season openers and eight straight home openers.

Scouting Temple
> Temple, picked to finish fifth in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll, returns eight letterwinners from last year's team that posted a 17-12 record and 10-7 AAC mark.
> Redshirt sophomore guard Damian Dunn, who led the Owls in scoring (14.9 ppg) last year, was named to the AAC preseason first team while junior Khalif Battle, who was averaging 21.4 ppg before being sidelined due to injury after game seven, was selected to the AAC preseason second team.
> Sophomores Jahlil White (7.4 ppg, 6.0 rpg), Nick Jourdain (6.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg) and Hysier Miller (4.9 ppg) join Dunn as returning starters, providing McKie with an experienced corp of veterans while sophomore transfer Jamille Reynolds, who played last year at UCF, is projected to man the post for the Owls.  
> Sophomore Zach Hicks (8.3 ppg, 61 threes), one of the top three-point shooters in the AAC last season, is projected to crack the starting lineup this season.
> Sophomore Emmanuel Okpomo along with transfers sophomore Shane Dezonie (Vanderbilt) and graduate student Kur Jongkuch (Northern Colorado) provide the Owls a deep, versatile lineup for the season.
 
Scouting Wagner
 > This is the first game under new head coach Donald Copeland, who took over this spring for longtime head coach Bashir Mason.
> The Seahawks' roster features eight returners from last season, including 2021 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year DeLonnie Hunt, who led all current Seahawks with 31 minutes per game and 8.4 points per game last season.
> The 2022-23 Seahawks feature five newcomers in freshmen Julian Brown and Keyontae Lewis along with transfers Lavell Brodnex, Brandon Brown, and Darrius Hughes.
> The Seahawks were picked to finish fourth by the league's coaches, receiving one first place vote.
 
Series History vs. Wagner
> Temple and Wagner are meeting for the second time with the Owls winning the initial meeting, 70-62, at the Liacouras Center on Dec. 1, 2012.
