Women's Basketball Bounced Out of AAC Tournament by SMU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Temple women's basketball team fell to the SMU Mustangs in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament, 63-55. Down by five points in the opening moments of the fourth quarter, a 9-0 run from the Mustangs put SMU up by 14 points and ultimately put the game out of reach, bouncing the Owls out of the conference tournament.

First Quarter: Temple 13, SMU 18
> After a 4-0 run from the Mustangs to begin the game, guard Emani Mayo got the Owls on the board with a three-pointer from the wing.
> Five different Owls scored in the quarter with Davis leading the way with four points.
> SMU ended the period on a 10-4 run to take a five-point lead heading into the break.
Second Quarter: Temple 26, SMU 33
> An and-one basket for Davis sparked a 5-0 run to begin the quarter to tie the game.
> Shortly after, foul trouble struck for Davis and Gourdine, taking them out of the ballgame for the rest of the quarter.
> SMU capitalized on the opportunity, outscoring the Owls 15-8 for the rest of the quarter.

Third Quarter: Temple 38, SMU 46
> Two quick midrange jump shots from Davis helped Temple out to a 5-0 run to open the third quarter and force an SMU timeout.
> Coming out of the timeout, SMU responded immediately with a three-pointer from Sydne Wiggins as well as a jumpshot from Jasmine Smith.
> Down by eight points with a few minutes remaining in the quarter, an and-one for Jalynn Holmes brought the Owls back within two possessions.
Fourth Quarter: Temple 55, SMU 63
> Following three points from Temple early on, a 9-0 run for SMU capped by a three-pointer from Smith stretched the Mustangs' lead to 14.
> Back-to-back three-pointers from Mayo and Perea brought the Owls back within seven points with just under four minutes remaining in the contest.
> Throughout the rest of the game, Temple and SMU traded buckets back-and-forth preventing the Owls from cutting into the deficit anymore.
