Kopec Invited to U-21 Development Squad Selection Camp

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomore midfielder Julianne Kopec has been invited to the USA Field Hockey 2023 and U-21 Development Squad Selection Camp. Kopec was selected following her performance at the 2022 Senior Nexus Championship earlier this month.

The U-21 and Development Squad Selection Camp will take place in December 2022 or January 2023, with specific timing and location to be confirmed. At this Selection Camp, these athletes will be evaluated to be named to the 2023 U-21 and Development Squad.

Once selected, the U-21 squad will prepare for the Junior Pan American Championship in April in Barbados with hopes to qualify for the women's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in December in Chile. The athletes above this age group will be offered opportunities to train with the USWNT as they prepare for the FIH Hockey Pro League matches in 2023.

Kopec had an explosive debut in Cherry and White, playing in all 19 games. The West Long Branch, N.J. native led the team in goals with six, three of which were game-winners to tie for third in the league. She scored the game-winner over No. 20 UConn to clinch the team's berth to the BIG EAST Tournament, marking the first time the team has defeated UConn since 1989 and the first time the team has defeated a ranked opponent since 2016.

The Owls will return to the field on Aug. 19 at Delaware for the first of two exhibition games before opening the 2022 campaign at Lafayette on Aug. 26.
