Field Hockey Set for Top-15 Matchup

PHILADELPHIA - After going 2-0 in an impressive showing on opening weekend, the Temple field hockey team will hit the road for a pair of games in Virginia. The Owls will see their first real test of the young season, facing No. 12 Virginia and Longwood.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
>Â The Owls went 2-0 opening weekend for the second-straight season. The 1-0 win over Lafayette was the third-straight season Temple opened with a shutout.
> The Cherry and White topped Lehigh 6-0 in the home opener, the most goals scored by the team since a 9-0 win over Towson in 2015.
> Senior Molly Frey earned her first career starts over the weekend and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance in the cage.Â
> Nienke Oerlemans posted a defensive save against the Leopards, the sixth of her career. The defender is now tied for 10th in the NCAA in active career defensive saves.
> Six Owls have recorded a goal through the first two games, with Olivia Vaccari's two leading the team.
> This is the first time since 2019 that Temple has faced a Power 5 opponent, falling 1-0 at No. 18 Rutgers. The Owls have not defeated a Top-15 team since topping No. 13 Old Dominion 2-1 in overtime in 2016. The last time the team defeated a Top-15 team on the road was a 1-0 win at No. 12 Old Dominion.

>Â Virginia split its first two matches of the season, falling 3-2 at No. 11 Penn State before topping No. 17 Delaware 4-1.
> Four Cavaliers have posted a goal, with Laura Janssen's three leading the team. Janssen leads the ACC in goals per game (1.5) and ranks 10th in the NCAA.
> In the cage, Tyler Kennedy has recorded 12 saves for a 2.01 GAA and is second in the league in saves per game (6.0).
> The Cavaliers will host James Madison to close out the weekend.Â

> The Lancers will travel to Towson to open the weekend before hosting the Owls on Sunday.Â
