Temple Volleyball Splits with George Washington and Penn

The Owls improve to 6-5 on season
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple volleyball team improved to 6-5 overall on Saturday with a split of a pair of matches with George Washington and Penn to close out the Sheraton University City Invitational at the Palestra in University City.
Sophomore Taylor Davenport led the Owls with 31 kills on the day, leading each match with 18 and 15, respectively. Behind the service line, Falanika Danielson saved her best for last as she set a career-high five aces in the evening victory versus Penn.

Coach Linda Hampton-Keith going into conference play after 6-5 in non-conference
"For me it's a new conference to coach in, and I'm looking forward for the team to continue to grow and evolve," said Hampton-Keith. "I just told the team, we aren't going to be the same team in November than we are right now and that's exciting."
Temple will be in action next weekend at Wichita State and Tulsa. On Friday, Sept. 23, the Owls will face the Shockers at 8 p.m. ET and then take on the Golden Hurricane on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. ET.

George Washington 3, Temple 1
Set 1 (GW, 25-19)
- In set one, Temple led George Washington by four points, 13-9, but the Colonials used a 7-0 run behind the serve of Amina Robinson, as she forced Temple into five errors in that span.
Set 2 (Temple, 25-16)
- The Cherry and White came out in set two and hit .391 as a team led by Taylor Davenport's seven kills on a .500 hitting percentage.
- Magdalena Rogalska was vital in the set victory for the Owls as she had 10 assists and three service aces, including a serving rotation where she added a pair of aces.
Set 3 (GW, 25-15)
- There were four tie scores in the set, all coming within 10 points, but Owls weren't able to overtake the lead of the Colonials in the set.
- George Washington hit .370 to the Owls .000.
- Brittany Myers and Liv Womble had a set-high five kills for the Colonials.
Set 4 (GW, 25-20)
- With the set tied at two all, Samantha Jo Mikosky's serve gave the Owls three consecutive points to take a 5-2 lead and continued to hold the advantage until the Colonials were able to chip away and tie the score at 16-16.
- George Washington closed out the set and the match by winning seven of the next 11 points.
- Temple did out hit GW, .133 to .029.
- Each team tallied three team blocks
Temple 3, Penn 1
Set 1 (Temple, 25-22)
- Neither team could get into a rhythm offensively in the first set as Penn hit .189 to the Owls .125.
- With the Owls down by the score of 15-9, sophomore Falanika Danielson stepped up to the service line and rallied Temple back to one point of the Quakers, 15-14, with the help of a pair of service aces.
- Danielson had three of her career-high five service aces in the first set.
- On Danielson's serve in set one scored seven Owl points.
- Taylor Davenport had five of the Owls' team-high 15 kills in set one.
Set 2 (Temple, 25-22)
- The Quakers jumped out to a 10-8 score, but just like set one, they were able to bounce back, winning eight of the next 11 points, forcing Penn in three hitting errors on three blocks.
- Both teams virtually hit equal in set two, with Temple hitting .222 and Penn at .229.
- With the score close, 19-18, in favor of Temple, the combination of Nikki Shimao and Jaaliyah Evans teamed up for back-to-back kills helped extend its lead to 21-18.
- With a Chudear Tut kill, Danielson gave the Owls set point with the help of her fourth service ace of the match.
- Tut had four kills in the set, while hitting a set-best .667.
Set 3 (Penn, 25-19)
- Penn held the Cherry and White to .000 hitting percentage, forcing Temple into 10 hitting errors, but Quakers had just 13 kills of the team's 25 points.
- Madeline McGregor, Emerson Flores, and Autumn Leak led Pennsylvania with three kills apiece.
- The Quakers blocked the Owls five times in the set, while Claire Deller had a set-high four.
Set 4 (Temple, 25-21)
- For the third time in the match, Temple was able to comeback from a deficit to pick up a set win.
- With the score, 8-4, TU rallied with four points to tie the score.
- The two teams battled throughout the middle of the set, knotting the score 11-11, but the Owls took a 14-13 advantage and never looked back, outscoring the Quakers 14-10 to earn the set victory.
- Danielson connected with her fifth ace of the match.
- Owls' players Taylor Davenport and Samantha Jo Mikosky tallied four blocks apiece.
