Calderaro Places 15th at January NAC

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 11 Temple fencing team concluded competition at the January North American Cup on Monday afternoon, with Margherita Calderaro leading all four epeeists with a 15th place finish.
Calderaro, Naomi Ross, Cindy Long, and Sara Proctor each took to the strip for the first round of pool play, with Calderaro, Ross, and Proctor advancing to the first elimination round. All three epeeists advanced to the second round of pool play, with Calderaro and Ross advancing to the final elimination round.
Ross earned a first round bye as the No. 47 seed, defeating Charlene Liu 15-14 in the round of 64 before falling to Christina Watrall 14-11 in the Round of 32. Calderaro defeated Ashley Luo 15-11 in the Round of 128, topping the No. 9 seed Sumin Lee 15-12 in the Round of 64. The Rome, Italy native defeated Caroline Nixon 15-13 in the Round of 32 and fell 15-10 to Faith Park in the Round of 16.
Calderaro earned a 15th place finish, Ross placed 32nd, Proctor tied for 87th place, and Long finished in 18th place.
The Owls will return to the strip this weekend, opening 2023 collegiate competition at the Penn State Invitational on Jan. 15.
