Fencing to Open 2023-24 Campaign at Penn State

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple fencing team will open the 2023-24 season on the road, heading to Penn State for the Garret Open.
The Owls had an impressive showing at last year's tournament, with four fencers placing in the top-8 and 11 placing in the top-15. Anne-Mai Melles (epee) and Eva Ventura (sabre) had team-leading performances, both tying for third in their respective weapons.Â
Foilist Renee Oymann finished in seventh place while Anna Novoseltseva (foil) finished eighth and Anastasia Yankovskiy (foil) finished in 13th place. Epeeists Naomi Ross finished ninth, Sara Proctor finished in 10th, Margherita Calderaro finished in 12th and Sarah Park finished in 13th place. Saberists Zoe Turner (10th) and Diana Tiburcio (15th) round out the top-15 finishers.
Temple returns 15 fencers from last year's squad and welcomed four newcomers during the offseason. Calderaro and Turner will suit up for their fifth and final seasons in Cherry and White, while six Owls will return to the strip for their senior seasons.
The Garret Open will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday morning in the White Building.Â
