No. 11 Fencing Set for Inaugural Coach Nikki Franke Classic

PHILADELPHIA - The No. 11 Temple fencing team is set to close out the preseason with the inaugural Coach Nikki Franke Classic (formerly the Temple Open) on Nov. 4 at the Liacouras Center.Â
The Owls had an impressive showing at last year's event, with seven fencers finished in the top-15 and four finished in the top-8. Epeeist Margherita Calderaro took home silver to lead the team. Naomi Ross (epee) and Elizabeth Novoseltseva (foil) both placed sixth, while Anna Novoseltseva's (foil) eighth place finish round out the top-8 finishers.Â
This will be the second preseason meet for the Cherry and White, opening individual play at the Garret Open hosted by Penn State on Oct. 21. The Owls saw five top-8 finishes and eight top-15 finishes. Anna Novoseltseva led the team, tying for third. Natalie Adams-Kim (foil) had an impressive debut in Cherry and White with a sixth place finish, while fellow foilist Anastasia Yankovskiy finished eighth. Arwen Gormley's sixth-place finish and Lauren Johnson's seventh-place finish led the sabre squad.
Competitors in women's foil, women's epee, and women's sabre will compete on Saturday, Nov. 4, with men's foil, men's epee, and men's sabre competing on Sunday, Nov. 5. On the women's side, foil and epee will begin at 8 a.m., with sabre beginning at 12:30 p.m. On the men's side, epee and foil will begin at 8 a.m. and sabre will begin at 12:30 p.m.
