Men’s Basketball Heads to Memphis for Key AAC Battle Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – After consecutive losses Temple (14-11, 8-4 American) will look to get back to its winning ways Sunday when the Owls travel to Memphis (18-6, 8-3) for a key American Athletic Conference showdown with the Tigers Sunday (12 pm ET/ESPN2/1210 AM WPHT).
Temple will be looking to rebound after falling for the first time on the road in conference play against SMU (72-71) Wednesday. The loss snapped a streak of five straight road wins to open league play.
Memphis, which defeated Temple at the Liacouras Center, 61-59, on Jan. 15, has won six of the last seven games with the lone loss coming to Tulane, 90-89 in overtime on Feb. 4. That was the first defeat for the Tigers at the FedEx Forum in 11 games this season.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Khalif Battle leads the team and ranks fourth in the American Athletic Conference in scoring (18.4 ppg). He has scored 20 points in a team-best 12 games and ranks second in the AAC in threes per game (2.92, 32nd nationally) and free throw percentage (.891, 18th nationally).
> Damian Dunn ranks second on the team in scoring (14.5 ppg), assists (2.9) and field goal percentage (.424). He leads the Owls (28th in NCAA) in free throws made (115) and is second in three-point percentage (33-95, .347).
> Jamille Reynolds, who missed 10 games due to a thumb injury, is back. The 6-11 center ranks third on the team in scoring (10.7 ppg) while leading the team in rebounding (5.7 rpg) and field goal percentage (.615).
> Zach Hicks (9.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg), who leads the team in three-point shooting (60-657, .359), and Hysier Miller (8.0 ppg, 3.4 apg) are the only two Owls to start all 25 games.
> Jahlil White (5.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg), the team's top perimeter defender, is averaging 6.5 points and 6.4 rebounds while shooting a team-best 32-of-59 (.542) from the field in conference play.
> Nick Jourdain (6.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.3 bpg), who posted his first double-double of the season (16 pts, 10 rebs) in the first meeting with Memphis, has started the last 12 games.

> SMU transfer Kendrick Davis, who hit the game-winner in the final seconds in the first meeting between the teams, is making a strong case to repeat as the AAC Most Outstanding Player. He currently leads the American Athletic Conference and ranks sixth in the nation in scoring (21.8 ppg). He also tops the league in assists (6.1 apg/8th NCAA) and ranks second in the nation in free throws made (164). The Memphis guard also is second in the AAC in steals per game (2.1 spg) and tied for fifth in free throw percentage (.854).
> Fifth year forward DeAndre Williams (17.2 ppg/6th AAC) is the only other double-figure scorer for the Tigers. He also leads the team in rebounding (8.0 rpg), ranking 4th in the AAC, and blocks (23).
> Redshirt senior guard Keonte Kennedy (9.7 ppg) has upped his game since the absence of injured starter Alex Lomax (8.2 ppg, 2.8 spg). Kennedy has scored in double figures in each of the last six games and tops the team in three-point percentage (.393) while ranking second in three-pointers made (35).
