Donabedian ties school record on floor with 9.950

PHILADELPHIA – Temple gymnastics picked up a quad meet victory on Senior Day as it scored a season-high 196.375, defeating Southern Connecticut State (193.925), Fisk (192.400), and Ursinus (187.825).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Temple's team score of 196.375 marked the third-highest score in school history.
  • The quartet of Cyrena Whalen, Anna Hill, Renee Schugman, and Brooke Donabedian led Temple with 9.9 scores on the day.
  • For the first time this season, the Owls scored a 49.000 or better on three of the four events.
  • Freshman Ashley Glynn topped herself one more time in the all-around, scoring a career-high 39.200, finishing in second place on the day.
 
ROTATION 1 (VAULT – 49.100)
  • With a 49.100, the Owls scored their second-highest mark on the event.
  • Charlie Behner (9.875), Anna Hill (9.875), Ashley Glynn (9.850), and Renee Schugman (9.825) all scored 9.8 during the first rotation.
  • Behner and Hill tied for third place, while Glynn and Schugman finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
  • Schugman improved on her season-high score of 9.750, with a 9.825, just short of her career-high of 9.850.
 
ROTATION 2 (BARS – 49.075)
  • Leading the Cherry and White to a season-best 49.075, Whalen picked up her second-career event win on bars with a career-best 9.925.
  • It was second time this season the junior Whalen has added a 9.9 score.
  • Sarah Stallings finished in second place behind Whalen with a 9.850. It was ninth time in 11 meets this season that the sophomore has scored at least a 9.8 on bars.
  • In her final home meet of her career, senior Madison Brooks finished in fourth place with a 9.800.
 
ROTATION 3 (BEAM – 48.900)
  • Sophomore Madison Dorunda earned her second beam victory of the season with a 9.825. It marks the eighth straight score of at least a 9.8 on beam.
  • Glynn and Donabedian tied for second with matching 9.8s. On the season, Donabedian has now scored seven 9.8s or higher on the apparatus.
  • Schugman led off for Temple as she scored a 9.775, giving her a tie for fourth place.
  • Graduate student Julianna Roland closed out her last meet at home with a 9.700.
 
ROTATION 4 (FLOOR – 49.300)
  • The Owls score of 49.300 tied for second highest this season.
  • Anna Hill got the 9.9 scoring barrage for Temple as she tallied a career-high 9.9. The Smithtown, N.Y. native Schugman took a short lead in today's meet by tying her career-high of 9.925, but it was the junior Donabedian who came away with the victory by replicating her own school record of 9.950.
  • Glynn also finished within the top 10, scoring a 9.800, her second straight 9.800 score.
 
UP NEXT
Temple closes out the regular season next Sunday, March 12 at Maryland in a five-team meet with the Towson, Yale, George Washington, and the host Terrapins. The meet is slated to begin at noon ET.
