Owls Shine at Night as Three Temple Athletes Advance to Finals at AAC Championships

5.13.23 | Women's Track and Field

Tampa, Fl – On a rain soaked Saturday at the American Athletic Conference Championships, three members of the Temple Track & Field team qualified for the finals of their events. A lengthy weather delay stole the show. Competition was halted due to lightning strikes at 4:15pm and did resume until 9pm resulting in the pole vault being moved to Sunday at 11:30.

Laura Nicholson and Elvira Bredin starred in the 800m, taking the one and two spots in their heat to qualify for the final tomorrow.

How it Happened

Tannekee Strachan and Allyson Metzger competed in the long jump. Strachan recorded a mark of 5.65m (18' 6 ½ ft) to place 5^th in her flight.
Following their performance, Nicholson and Bredin will compete in the 800M final tomorrow at 6pm.
Chidumga Nkulume set her fourth personal best of the season in the 400m dash, clocking 54.31 to qualify for the final of the event.
Chelby Elam, Greig, and Trout ran in the 100m dash. Greig earned the best time of the Owls, running 24.79. This was also a personal best for the native of Scotland.

Program record holder Strachan jumps in the triple jump at 2:30p. Three Owls will compete in the high jump 4:30p. Track events will also begin at 4:30 for TU.
