Gymnastics' Stallings Captures Eighth Career Event Title During Friday's Keystone Classic

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – On Friday, the Temple Owls gymnastics team kicked off the 2024 season with the Keystone Classic as junior Sarah Stallings captured her eighth career title and seventh  uneven bars event championship. Penn State earned the meet win with a 194.725, while Pitt followed with a 193.125, the host Penn scored a 192.575, and Temple finished with a 192.250.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Owls started off the meet, holding the lead through three rotations.
  • On the bars, Stallings won the bars event during the third rotation, scoring a 9.875.
  • Junior Madison Dorunda finished in fourth-place out of 12 other gymnasts in the all-around.
  • Seven Owls earned five top-five finishes during the Keystone Classic
Rotation 1 (Floor - 48.725)
  • After the first rotation, Temple and Penn were tied atop the team standings with a 48.725.
  • Overall, the Owls finished with three of the top-six gymnasts on the floor at the end of the night.
  • First-year gymnast Payton Monk started off her Temple gymnastics career leading the team with a 9.825.
  • 2023 NCAA Regional qualifiers, Brooke Donabedian and Renee Schugman finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Donabedian was fifth as she scored a 9.775, while Schugman tied for sixth with a 9.750.
Rotation 2 (Vault – 48.600)
  • The Owls continued to hold the meet lead with a 97.325 total after two events.
  • In rotation 2, four of the six Cherry and White's gymnasts scored at least a 9.7.
  • Freshmen Hannah Weklar and Amelia Budd were the first two TU gymnasts on the apparatus, scoring a 9.625 and a 9.750, respectively.
  • Budd and junior Madison Dorunda led Temple with a 9.750 during rotation two.
  • Also scoring in the 9.7 range was Schugman (9.7) and fellow senior Mackenzie Aresta (9.725).
Rotation 3 (Bars – 48.575)
  • After the third rotation, Temple continued to hold the lead as it had a 145.900.
  • Stallings' 9.875 score tied her second-best mark in her career and 16th score of 9.8 or better.
  • Sophomore Reese DeHaan and senior Cyrena Whalen also helped the Owls with a pair of 9.7 scores.
Rotation 4 (Beam – 46.350)
  • Aresta and freshman Megan White made their first career appearances on the beam.
  • Schugman led Temple with a 9.7 in rotation four. The Smithtown, N.Y. native finished in fifth-place overall.
 
UP NEXT
The Temple gymnastics team will be on the road this Sunday, Jan. 7 at West Virginia for a dual meet versus the Mountaineers.  The action begins on ESPN+ at 2 p.m. ET.
