No. 11 Temple Fencing Completes Competition at Elite Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 11 Temple fencing team began its dual meet schedule on Sunday at the Elite Invitational, hosted on the University of Pennsylvania campus. The Owls faced a challenging early-season test, competing against four squads ranked in the top 15 of the national coaches' preseason poll. By the end of the day, Temple posted a respectable 2-3 showing, with wins over Air Force and No. 14 Stanford.

MEET SUMMARY
- Temple opened the day by falling to No. 8 Cornell (10-17), and No. 5 Northwestern (7-20).
- The Owls bounced back by defeating Air Force (15-6), which included a 7-2 advantage in sabre.
- Temple concluded its day by facing No. 3 Columbia and No. 14 Stanford. After coming up short against Columbia (9-18), the Owls edged out Stanford (14-13) in a tightly contested matchup. The Owls' epeeists were instrumental, taking control of the match by winning seven of nine bouts.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Foilist Renee Oymann went 8-3 on Sunday, including a 3-0 record against Northwestern.
- Eppeists Victoria Doroshkevich and Anne-Mai Melles finished with 7-8 and 5-6 records, respectively, but proved crucial in the final bout against Stanford, combining for a 5-1 showing against the Cardinal.
- Sabreist Lauren Johnson led all Owls with a total of ten wins on Sunday. The sophomore posted an impressive 4-2 mark against the two highest ranked teams in the field, Northwestern and Columbia.
