Women's Basketball Hosts Defending A-10 Champion Richmond in Season Opener Monday

OPENING TIP
The Temple women's basketball team looks to build upon last season's American Athletic Conference regular-season title as it hosts reigning Atlantic 10 tournament champion Richmond at Liacouras Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m., and will follow the men's game vs. Sacred Heart.

Jon Mozes and Nicki Jones will have the call on ESPN+, while Ray Dunne will broadcast the contest live on OwlSports.com, the new home of Temple radio broadcasts.

All students in attendance will have an opportunity to win two tickets to the Philadelphia Eagles-Washington Commanders game on Thursday, November 14. The winners will be announced during the women's game.

NEWS & NOTES
•The Owls finished the 2023-24 season in a three-way tie for first place in the American Athletic Conference. 
•The last time Temple won its conference in the regular season was during the 2011-12 season, when the Cherry & White the Atlantic 10.
•Temple passed the 17-win plateau for the first time since 2015-16 when they finished the season with 23 victories.
•Temple employed its "Equal Opportunity Offense" last season and had many contributors to its success. The Owls became the first team in AAC history to win a regular season conference title without ever winning a conference player of the week that season.
•Temple ranked 7th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (16.2) and 23rd in turnover margin (+4.66). The Owls ranked first in the AAC in turnover margin.
•The Owls put together a formidable non-conference schedule, with as many as seven opponents, including Monday's opponent Richmond, advanced to postseason play.
•The Spiders went 29-6 and earned a bit into the NCAA Tournament, alongside future opponents #16 West Virginia, Drexel and Princeton.
•VCU and Georgetown both earned spots in the WBIT, as did Cal, who the Owls could play in December.

NEW TO BROAD STREET
•Temple welcomes seven newcomers to the team for the upcoming 2024-25 season, including four freshmen and three transfers.
•Amaya Oliver (Loyola Marymount), Anissa Rivera (Towson), and Kaylah Turner (Alabama A&M) are the three transfers, while Savannah Curry, Adena Webster, Felicia Jacobs and Kelian Cedano are starting their first season of college basketball with the Cherry & White.
•Oliver was a Pac 12 All-Freshman Team selection while at USC, prior to her transfer to Loyola Marymount. Rivera was a preseason All-CAA First Team selection for Towson in 2022-23, while Turner was named the 2024 SWAC Freshman of the Year at Alabama A&M.

EAST COAST OFFENSE
•Tiarra East is one of the few players who was here prior to Coach Richardson's arrival.
•The senior guard blossomed last season and was named Preseason All-AAC Second Team.
•The 5-11 guard led the team in scoring at 13.3 points per contest and is one of the top free-throw shooters in Temple history, entering the season in fourth place at 79.6%.

YEAR THREE OF COACH RICH
•Head coach Diane Richardson enters her third season at Temple.
•Last season, Coach Rich led the Owls to a 13-5 record in conference play, earning a share of the American Athletic Conference regular season title. This was Temple's first AAC title and the first time TU has won its conference since the 2011-12 season, when the team captured the Atlantic 10 conference title.
•Prior to Temple, Coach Rich coached the Towson Tigers for five seasons. In just her second year at the helm, Richardson led Towson to their only NCAA tournament appearance in program history and achieved the team's second 20-win season.

T-MAC ATTACK
•Tarriyonna Gary looks to make a big impact in her final season at Temple.
•Last year, she led the team in 3-pointers made with 63 and had a career high six 3-pointer made against Florida Atlantic. 
•For her career, she has made 180 three-pointers including 124 across two seasons with Temple.
•She is on pace to move into the top three all-time in school history in three-point field goals made, and is just two shy of cracking the Top 10.

FAMILIAR FACE
•Graduate student Anissa Rivera has plenty of familiar faces in this her first season at Temple.
•Rivera previously played for head coach Diane Richardson and the current Temple staff at Towson, alongside Tarriyonna Gary and former Owls Aleah Nelson and Rayne Tucker in 2021-22.
•The Tigers went 24-8 that season and earned a spot in the WNIT Tournament.

REFRESHING TO HAVE FRESHMEN
•The Owls welcome a class of four freshmen into the fold this season.
•Adena Webster averaged 34.4 points per game at Archbishop Carroll in Miami as a junior and was an All-Dade County honoree after starring at the junior level in her native Bahamas.
•Kelian Cedano netted 16 points and five assists per game for Putnam Science Academy, while Felicia Jacobs scored 11.5 per game and had 11 rebounds a contest for City of London Academy Southwark and has experience with the Great Britain U18 team.
•Savannah Curry was a state champion locally at Westtown School and scored more than 1,000 points in her high school career.

CROSSING THE POND
•This year's squad features three players from international backgrounds – two of which are newcomers.
•Jaleesa Molina returns for her second season on North Broad. The Netherlands native appeared in 27 games a season ago, averaging 3.6 points and scoring in double figures twice.
•Two freshmen on the roster hail from other countries as well. Adena Webster originally hails from The Bahamas, while Felicia Jacobs is from London, England.

UP NEXT
•Temple returns to action after an eight-day layoff on Tuesday, November 12 with a contest at Delaware. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Newark.
