Three Owls Set Personal Bests in Season Opener at UPenn Open

PHILADELPHIA—Temple opened its 2024-25 indoor season this weekend at the UPenn Open. The team competed against eight schools across the tri-state area. Nya Browne, Reagan Schwartz, and Reece Sullivan set personal bests in their season opener.

>Amira Green earned the Cherry & White's only first-place finish, winning the high jump with a leap of 1.72 meters (5-07.75).
> Freshman Deja Scott placed 9th in the long jump with a mark of 5.27 meters (17-03.50), while Reagan Schwartz finished 14th with a jump of 5.11 meters (16-09.25). Schwartz also set a personal best in the triple jump, placing 8th with 11.48 meters (37-08.00).
>Aliza White Vega led the pole vaulters, coming in fifth place, 3.80 meters (12-05.50), and Reece Sullivan set a personal best, placing 10th jumping 3.20 meters (10-06.00).
>Nya Browne had a standout performance, setting two personal bests: she placed 15th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.90 and 3rd in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.68.
> For the sprints Lia Ziegler placed 16th (7.91) and Allyson Metzger placed 25th (8.05) in the 60-meter dash.
> Chloe Smith placed 12th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.12).
> Freshman Grace Hickman led the Owls in the 300-meter dash placing 25th (43.63). Terren Bolton placed 32nd (45.41) and Dicia Watkins placed 34th (46.30).
> Senior Jade Pope placed the highest for the Cherry & White in the 600 meters, Pope placed 10th (1:37.46). She was trailed closely by four freshmen: Mariah Jameson 12th (1:38.95), Chloe Smith 16th (1:40.17), Jayla Green 21st (1:41.05), and Maliah Powell 25th 1:43.26).
> In the distance events, Laila Cottom placed 11th with a time of 3:05.78, and Maya Gomes finished 12th in 3:10.03.

The Owls will return to competition in the new year on January 11 at the Ott Center for the Penn Select Meet.
