2.15.24 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University men's basketball team gave No. 24 Florida Atlantic all it could handle, but the Owls were upended by FAU 80-68 on Thursday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
Temple got off to a hot start from the floor, hitting four of its first six shots including a trio of three-pointers, grabbing an early 11-9 lead just more than four minutes in. Florida Atlantic responded, scoring 15 of the next 20 points to take its first lead of the night.
While TU continued to shoot well, FAU connected at a blistering pace, despite having contested looks. Florida Atlantic opened the game 7-for-12 from beyond the arc on its way to a 45-34 lead at the break.
Temple made a push early in the second half, quickly cutting the lead to 53-47 on a triple by Hofman. After a defensive stop, TU climbed closer as Steve Settle III found Matteo Picarelli driving to the basket for a layup, forcing an FAU timeout at the 15:14 mark.
The next couple minutes saw the defense take over for both teams as Florida Atlantic reestablished a nine-point lead. Undeterred, TU went on a 7-0 run as Temple chopped the lead to 60-58 on a Riley dunk just past the eight-minute juncture.
From there, TU went cold for the next couple of minutes as FAU used an 11-2 run to push the lead. Temple was able to slice the lead into single digits in the waning moments, but ran out of time for one last push.
UP NEXT
