No. 9 Fencing Ready for Sunday’s Temple Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 9 Temple Fencing team closes out the regular season on Sunday, Feb. 25 in McGonigle Hall with the Temple Invitational. The final regular season meet will begin at 8:30 a.m. with live video available on the Temple Athletics YouTube channel.
The Owls will start fencing at 8:30 a.m. against No. 4 Princeton, followed by No. 11 St. John's at 10 a.m., No. 6 Penn at 11:30 a.m., No. 12 Penn State at 1:45 p.m., and finally No. 1 (DIII) Johns Hopkins at 3:15 p.m.
Right after the lunch break period, TU will honor its eight student-athletes in their final meet as a Temple. The senior day festivities begin at 1:30 p.m.
LAST TIMEOUT
Two weeks ago, between the Tar Heel Duals and the Duke Invitational, the Owls went a combined 7-2 during the two-event weekend.
INDIVIDUALLY IN NORTH CAROLINA
Individually, the Cherry and White went a combined 90-45 in Chapel Hill and the next day followed it up with another successful showing, earning a 70-38 record.
Sabreists Alexandra Weinberg, Eva Ventura, Lauren Johnson, and Diana Tiburcio combined for 47 squad victories with each earning double-digit win totals. The senior Weinberg led the Owls in sabre with a 14-4 record. Ventura followed up with 12 wins, going 12-6. The freshman Johnson went 11-5, while the senior Tiburcio tallied 10 wins.
Graduate student Margherita Calderaro led the epeeists with 13 wins during the North Carolina road trip, going 13-5. Freshman Grace Smith (11-5) was on the heels of her teammate Calderaro with 11 wins. Junior Cindy Long and Freshman Lindsey Minor tied for nine wins apiece.
Highlighted by a 9-1 day at the UNC Duals, junior Constanca Dimas led the foilists with a 12-3 weekend on Tobacco Road. Sophomore Natalie Adams-Kim went an impressive 9-1 showing between the two days, while junior Anna Novoseltseva and Anastasia Yankovskiy tied Adams-Kim with nine victories.
