Owls Open Season With Offensive Explosion in Win Against Queens

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University field hockey team got the season started in fine fashion, coming away with a 7-0 win against the Queens (NC) Royals on Friday night.

- Six different players scored for the Owls. Peyton Rieger found the back of the cage twice with Marsha Ariesen, Devin Kinzel, Tess Muller, Isabella Pisano and Halle Aschenbach each tallying one.
- Muller and Aschenbach each also had an assist. Catherine Arentz, Myrthe Schuilenburg, Alizé Maes and Mathéa Lassalle also added helpers.
- TU held a 38-2 advantage in shots and recorded a 19-1 edge in penalty corners.
- The 7-0 win was the biggest margin of victory and the most goals scored by Temple in a season opener since a 7-0 victory against Swarthmore in 1967.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After going nearly the entire first quarter scoreless, the Owls jumped on the board as Aschenbach netted the first tally of the season at the 13:43 mark.
- The goal opened the floodgates as Temple found the back of the cage three more times in a span of less than six minutes as Rieger, Muller and Ariesen each scored, helping TU to a 4-0 lead at the break.
- Rieger posted her second of the game in at the 31:32 mark, followed by a goal from Pisano at 35:32. Temple cemented the final with a tally by Kinzel off a corner at 46:34.
