Opening Tip
- The Temple University men's basketball team begins its 130th season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Delaware State on ESPN+.
- The Owls return a pair of starters in sophomores Babatunde Durodola and Aiden Tobiason. Durodola became the first Temple freshman since 2006–07 to start 30-plus games, while Tobiason was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team. Mohamed Keita and Connor Gal also return from the 2024–25 roster.
- Temple is one of four American Athletic Conference teams returning multiple starters, with only Tulane returning more than two (three).
- The Owls were active in the transfer portal, adding eight transfers to make depth a strength for 2025–26. Newcomers include Gavin Griffiths (Nebraska), Jamai Felt (Bowling Green), CJ Hines (Alabama State), Spencer Mahoney (Cal), AJ Smith (College of Charleston), Masiah Gilyard (Manhattan), Derrian Ford (Arkansas State) and Jordan Mason (UIC).
- Three freshmen join the roster: Olin Chamberlain Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's Preparatory), Ayuba Bryant Jr. (Antwerp, Belgium) and Cam Wallace (Malvern, Pa./Westtown School).
- The Owls set a program scoring record in the 2024–25 season at 78.8 points per game. Temple thrived at the free-throw line, ranking third nationally in free throws made per game (19.5) and fourth in attempts (26.5).
Scouting Delaware State
- Delaware State enters the 2025–26 season following a 16–14 campaign last year. With a reloaded roster, the Hornets return six players who combined for 20.6% of last season's 78.7 points per game. This year's squad features nine newcomers — eight transfers and one freshman, three-star recruit Jalen St. Clair.
- The Hornets were selected to tie for fifth with North Carolina Central in the MEAC Preseason Poll. Ponce James was named to the All-MEAC Preseason First Team, while Camian Shell earned second-team honors.
- The 2024–25 season ended in heartbreaking fashion for Delaware State. Entering the MEAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed after an 8–6 conference record, the Hornets fell on a last-second buzzer-beater to No. 6 North Carolina Central.
- Head coach Stan Waterman enters his fifth season with a career record of 39–83, including 31 wins over the last two seasons. Since his arrival in Dover, the Hornets' NET ranking has improved from 357th to 304th.
