Owls Gear Up for Rutgers Meet Friday Night

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Owls are set to travel to Piscataway, NJ for the Rutgers Meet on Friday, Mar. 7 at 7:00 PM, where they'll compete against Cornell, Rutgers, and Southern Connecticut State.
 

VAULT
Temple achieved their highest season score on vault at the meet, surpassing their previous best of 9.875 from Towson (1/31). The Owls kicked off the rotation with a solid 9.725 from sophomore Amelia Budd. Nikki Renfigo and Hannah Weklar each earned 9.775, followed by Renee Schugmann, who posted a 9.800, marking a season-high for the 5th year. Kyrstin Johnson closed the rotation with a strong 9.825, securing the highest score for the Owls.

BARS
The Owls performed strongly on bars in their second rotation, scoring 48.100 as a team. Reese DeHaan led off with a solid 9.750 for the Owls. Hannah Weklar continued her impressive run, breaking her career-high for the second meet in a row with a 9.875. Sarah Stallings followed with a strong 9.825, while Megan White added a 9.725 to contribute to the Owls' overall performance.

BEAM
Temple posted a strong team score of 48.775 on the beam in their third rotation. Madison Dorunda led the way with a solid 9.850, followed closely by Summer Ruskey and Brooke Donabedian, who each earned 9.800. Dorunda came just 0.025 shy of tying her season-high of 9.875 from the Bowling Green meet (2/21). Renee Schugmann added another consistent performance with a 9.775, marking her third time reaching that score this season.

FLOOR
The Owls finished strong with a team score of 49.175, surpassing their previous team high of 48.925 at the Lone Star Challenge (1/11). Weklar kicked off the rotation with a solid 9.700, her third time reaching at least that score this season. Nikki Renfigo tied her freshman season record with her second consecutive 9.775. Kyrstin Johnson delivered a standout performance with a season-high 9.900, topping her previous high of 9.850 from the Lone Star Challenge. The fifth-years, Renee Schugmann (9.850) and Brooke Donabedian (9.875) rounded out the rotation with impressive season-high scores in their final rotation at McGonigle Hall.

SCOUTING CORNELL
Cornell fell to SUNY Brockport, 192.900-192.725, with Sydney Beers winning the all-around with a 38.875, including a 9.775 on vault. The Big Red posted a season-high 48.175 on bars, led by Morgen Shambo's 9.675 for fourth, and Beers topped the vault with a 9.775. Michaela DeFrancisco placed second with a 9.750. On the floor, Josie Moylan scored a season-best 9.825 to place second, while Beers tied for second on the beam with a 9.750. Kate Michelini and Natalia Tehrani tied for fifth on the beam with 9.650s.

SCOUTING RUTGERS
Rutgers posted a 195.875 at the Big Four Meet on Sunday, with Rachael Riley tying a program record and winning beam with a 9.950, while the beam team scored the third-highest total in program history with a 49.325. No. 3 UCLA won the meet with a 197.200, followed by No. 21 Nebraska (196.675) and No. 22 Ohio State (196.650). Riley's career-high 9.950 tied the school record on beam, followed by Gabrielle Dildy second straight 9.900, and Anna Pagliaro (9.875) and Matis Rains (9.850) set career-high ties. Delaney Adrian rounded out the beam score with a 9.750. Adrian also achieved a career-high 39.100 in the all-around and tied her career-high of 9.875 on the floor to lead Rutgers.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
Southern Connecticut finished second in a tri-meet at Brown with a score of 189.300, behind Brown's 194.575, while Rhode Island College scored 189.075. Libby Allen earned a top-five finish on the floor, and Brianna Dorr on the vault. On uneven bars, Kylie Sitty tied for sixth with a 9.550, and Shreya Munshi placed ninth with a 9.475. Alexa Melanson scored 9.725 on the beam for sixth, while Allen and Angelina Stanfa scored 9.600. Allen tied for third on the floor with a season-best 9.800, while Dorr tied for second on vault with a 9.675. Sitty and Zebdi tied for fifth and seventh, respectively, on vault with scores of 9.600 and 9.525.

UP NEXT
Temple will hit the road for the meet on Mar. 15 at 6:30 PM for the Masters Classic Meet in Lincoln, NE, where they will compete against Iowa State, Texas Women's, and Nebraska.
