Owls Defeat Quinnipiac in Four Sets at McGonigle Hall

PHILADELPHIA – Temple volleyball (8-4) defeated Quinnipiac (3-8) 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20) Saturday afternoon at McGonigle Hall. Olivia Hummel led the way with 15 kills, hitting .364, and added 20 digs. Temple had a season-high of 20 blocks, led by Alyssa Finister with six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (Temple 25, Quinnipiac 21)
Leia Harper recorded five kills midway through the first set to give Temple a narrow 12-11 lead over Quinnipiac.
The Owls responded with a five-point run, sparked by three kills from Hummel, to go up 20-18.
Temple secured the opening set, 25-21.
SET 2 (Temple 20, Quinnipiac 25)
Temple registered its fourth block of the match, courtesy of Alyssa Finister and Hummel, for an early 4-2 edge.
Christiana Greene contributed back-to-back kills and a block to push the lead to 12-10.
However, a 6-1 Quinnipiac run gave the Bobcats control as they claimed the second set, 25-20.
SET 3 (Temple 25, Quinnipiac 17)
A strong scoring run, led by blocks from Hummel and Finister, gave Temple a 12-8 advantage.
An ace from Madeline Metcalf sparked a 5-0 run to close the set, 25-17.
During that stretch, blocks by Katie Hickey and Daniella Gonzalez Murati brought Temple's match total to 16 blocks, 10 of which came in the third set.
SET 4 (Temple 25, Quinnipiac 20)
The teams stayed within two points for most of the set until Harper's ace and a Hummel kill pushed Temple ahead, 22-19.
Hummel sealed the match with back-to-back kills for the 25-20 win.
