PHILADELPHIA – Despite some late-game excitement and a career-high 12 saves by junior goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple, the Temple field hockey team (3-9) suffered a 7-2 loss at the hands of 14th-ranked Stanford (9-1) on Friday afternoon.
The Owls' Bridget Settles prevented the shutout, scoring twice in the final two minutes of the contest. Temple nearly notched a third goal when it was awarded a penalty shot in the final minute, but Charise Young's shot was saved by Stanford goalkeeper Alessandra Moss.
Stanford got its momentum going early as Midori Uehara scored from near the top of the circle less than a minute into the game, crossing her shot to the left past Dalrymple.
Dalrymple went on to make four saves in the remainder of the half, but the Cardinal slipped two more goals past her in the latter part of the period.
Stanford scored three times on 15 shots in the second half, including one on a penalty corner and one on a rebounded shot after a corner. The Cardinal finished with a 9-3 edge in corners, as well as a 27-8 edge in shots.
The Cherry and White will return to the field on Sunday, Oct. 4 in 2:00 p.m. home contest against cross-town rival Penn.
