PHILADELPHIA – The Temple field hockey team lost its Atlantic-10 opener to Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 to the Hawks at Buckley Field.
The loss drops Temple to 4-10 overall, while Saint Joseph's improves to 3-7.
The Hawks held a 3-0 lead by halftime after three different players scored, Jen Wrublesky, Ellen Rowe and Kellie Walter.
After getting out-shot 11-3 in the first half, Temple picked it up in the second half and recorded six shots to Saint Joseph's five. But no scores resulted, and the Hawks picked up goal number four on a penalty stroke.
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple made nine saves for the Owls. Senior Charise Young and sophomore Bridget Settles each tallied two shots in the contest.
Temple will have more than a week off before its next contest, a 12:00 p.m. home game against Massachusetts on Sunday, Oct. 18.
